Hi

I am really confused by everything atm I fell pregnant at 19 before that I was in college doing ICT.
Now I really would like to find a pt job when ds starts school next Sept or should I re train in something else and really go for a career how could I do this?

Has anyone else been in the same boat as me just feel unable to apply for jobs as not really had much experience and also finding it impossible to find any pt ones atm :(

Have heard about OU courses but am so confused by it and dont have any type of idea what to do, I'll stop rambling now :)

Well what would you like to be? If you can think of a job you'd like to do then I'd say re-train, either with the OU or at a traditional university, and go for it!

If you're undecided then what are your skills? Do you prefer working with people or by yourself? Are you organised, neat and tidy or more creative?

Could you consider doing a bit of voluntary work to get some experience? If DS has 'free' hours at preschool that might give you a few mornings a week that you can use to volunteer and try something out.

Look into local Adult education courses; yes they are subject to spending cutbacks, but can be a good way to ease back into brushing up your skills and finding what you like to do.

I cant really pin point exactly what I would like to do.

I am good at writing and enjoy this but not sure where it could take me, I suppose I like working alone more and I am very organised, neat and punctual I achieved this through being a sahm.

Yes I have been looking at voulenteering as my partner is starting at our local hospital in Jan, mabye I could do the same? :)

Its just all so confusing there is so many options Confused

Stab in the dark as I don't know much about it...

Journalist? My brother and father are journalists, don't know how easy it was to get into but brother now does freelance work. As an easy earner he gets tickets to various performances from the local paper and writes reviews, don't know how well it pays.

You can try getting into journalism from home to see if you like it, writing online reviews etc. To get into it seriously now I suspect you'd need a degree of some kind.

If you're the kind of person who enjoys organising things then admin work, if you start on a voluntary basis to get some experience, might be easy to get into without qualifications and you can quite often negotiate flexible hours.

There are loads of volunteering options out there but would something at the hospital interest you?

The3Bears · 23/10/2010 11:12

I thought mabye at the hospital it could lead to admin work/receptionists within the hospital mabye ?

I would love journalism although I know it would be hard work Im going to look into this thanks :) It would be good to have a job I could also do at home and im guessing journalism can :)

I'm going to look into the options Its just so hard not knowing where to start it seems so impossible :)

Contact the hospital and see what admin work they're looking for.

Local charities will probably bite your hand off if you offer admin work too.
