Can you claim JSA if you resign?

Work has become unbearable and I am considering resigning as I have had enough and it is affecting my health.

Would I be able to claim JSA until I find a new position? I have applied for 3 jobs this week.

Have you looked it up on DWP web site or DirectGov web site.

You might be able to claim contribution-based JSA.

FFS. Work have just phoned me for the second time since I was signed off on Monday.

What do I have to do to get a break from these people??!!

Is it any wonder I want to resign? [hangry]

If you have resigned from your last job, payment of JSA could be affected. Jobcentre Plus will need to know why you resigned from your job. Your reasons will then be sent to an independant Decision Maker, who will then decide if in law you have "good cause" for leaving your job. If you have, your JSA won't be affected.
If you haven't, then a sanction could be imposed on your claim, for any period up to a maximum of 26 weeks.
The decision is not made at the start of your claim. It can take several weeks (or in some cases months!) for a decision to come back. In the meantime, your JSA continues to be paid at the full rate. You don't have to wait for a decision to be made until you get paid.

Thanks Durham. That's good to know, who knows I could be in a new job fairly quickly and won't be reliant on JSA for too long.

I just need to get away from where I am [hsad]

Lots of good luck, no good can come of being in a job that makes you ill xx
