Redundancy help needed please!

I am up for redundancy selection with 2 other girls in a team. 2 full time and 1 part time (myself). Firstly I feel that I have been unfairly selected my reason being that even though I am in this team I have never actually worked for anyone in it and have actually worked for an associate that is in another team for the past 5/6 years and also for another associate in another team. I had worked in this other department up to merger which was last year when all of a sudden my name was included in this team without being notified or told why. I don't know if this is something which I can bring up that will put me at an advantage.

Criteria is based on review which was done by associate in another team!, timekeeping, attendance, experience and skills.

Out of the 3 of us I am listed as 0.6 (p/t) with 1 being (f/t) and I have noticed that under their new structure 1.6 is needed with 1 going. I don't know whether you can take anything from this but I assume it means that they are keeping 1.6 meaning (1 f/t and 1 p/t). If I went this would mean that one of the f/t would have to go to p/t).

I have never been in this situation before. This is my one and only job. Might I ask for some suggestions as to how I go about trying to keep my job. What suggestions can I make i.e. more flexibility, change of days. I cannot suggest p/t as I already am so am not sure what else to suggest.

Can I make personal references in the meeting i.e supporting a young family. Would it be better to take in a colleague who is quite outspoken or a more senior colleague who I did work for in the past. What are they able to do/say to support me at this meeting.

Any help appreciated.

Sorry you're in this situation. However I don't think (unless you know otherwise) that your previous employment has any bearing on your selection for redundacy - though it will, of course, affect any redundancy payout.
If the meeting you are talking about is the interview for your job, treat it as an interview. No references to supporting your family - simply talk about how your skills and experience make you the best person for the job. I don't understand why you can take a colleague?

it looks to me like they are looking to get rid of 1 x full time post rather than you.
How likely is it that the two full timers will want to go 0.6?
This might be in your favour but I wouldn't say this to your colleagues though.

I personally wouldn't mention family commitments etc - I don't think this is relevant from an employers POV - I see how it is from yours however.

You are in the same team at the moment, yes? Doing the same or very similar job? In that case it's right that you should all be included in a selection pool.

If it's an interview you are talking about I wouldn't refer to personal circumstances. They will keep the people who are best for the jobs, not the people who need the jobs most, so in the interview focus on why you are the best, not why you need the job most.

If it's a consultation meeting it will be for you to give feedback or ask questions about how the selection will be made, and for you to make any suggestions if you have any about how they could achieve their aims (presumably cost-cutting) without making anyone redundant, or by doing it differently.

mollythetortoise - I would say they both could offer to go p/t instead of losing their jobs but it depends on what they have been offered and it is an enhanced package. The only other thing is if I suggested a job share with myself but I do x3 a week which would mean the other person would be x2 so I can't see that as it would be a huge drop.

This is not an interview. It is a meeting to see if you can save your job not a job being offered.

Sorry I dont get the previous employment reference?

And I realise now I had read your statement incorrectly. However, if the company is making cuts then is it possible they span teams?

I know this isn't an interview for a job being offered, but you are effectively being interviewed for your own job, if you see what I mean. So I'd treat it as an interview.

Yes my name is down on paper as being in the team selected but I have never done any work for any of the team. I work for someone in another team and this person actually did my review. Surely a member of the team selected should have done my review then? as was the case with the other 2. I believe it is a consultation meeting and the selection is based on a scoring system on timekeeping, attendance, skills and experience, performance. I cannot think of any suggestions about how they could achieve their aims. They need 1.6 as far as I can see (1 f/t and 1 p/t). I don't know how else this could be achieved between 3 people. I know in the past when it happened a few went p/t but I cannot I already am.
