My husband is going for the interview of his life tomorrow. He has been preparing for days and really stressed. he has prepared his presentation. It is a promotion and will mean that he will now be managing people.

He just said that the basic question always gets him and could i think of a really good answer. I said that i was fekked after taking up the slack with three kids for the past week, but i would ask MN. Any ideas?

I think it depends a lot on what the job is, but for my most recent interview, I wanted to make it clear that I had the skills, the experience and the enthusiasm to do the job. I had a mental checklist of everything I wanted to say, and was counting on my fingers to make sure I said it.

For that question I said something along the lines of 'you've seen I have the skills and experience to do the job to a very high level, and I hope you can tell that I'd really love to do this job'. Big beaming smile to all in the room.

Went down well, because a large part of my job is representing the organisation, and I have to be super enthusiastic about it.

When I've been asked this I usually say something like 'because I have the skills, knowledge and experience that you are looking for and know that I can do the job and do it well, for example I have....' and then give some examples from my career that match the job description/person spec.

A good follow up to this is when they ask for questions at end I ask if they have any concerns about employing me for job. That way I can add anything I might have forgotten or repeat anything I want to remind them of

It's awful preparing for big interviews - good luck to your DH
