Need to have a difficult conversation with boss tomorrow.

I'm contracted to work 27 hours a week as an admin. I do this over 3 days and am off for the other 4.

We are severally short staffed just now and both cooks went off on Mat leave at the same time. Boss hired a new cook who lasted 4 weeks and left.

Boss asked me to cover a couple of shifts in the kitchen. I don't have a food handling certificate or anything but agreed to get them out of a tight spot.

Now I'm working my 3 days in the office ( can be any 3 days and boss's whim)and 2 in the kitchen. I didn't agree to do this, off duty was made up while I was on holiday.

I've now worked 2 full weeks and have been on for the last 5 days and work tomorrow too.

I don't want the kitchen job, boss is asking if I can do Christmas Day or New Years Day! So tomorrow I ahve to go in and tell her I'm sorry but that I don't want to work in the kitchen anymore.

I feel awful letting her down and don't quite know how to put it to her. Agency staff can (and have been in the past) hired to fill the gaps.

What will I say?

Thanks Lenin.

I'm suffering a good old dose of guilt which isn't helping Smile.

I'll just have to brave and get it over with.

She would be able to hire a temp cook/chef member in a matter of hours from a temp agency. They are not in short supply right now with so many cafes/restaurants shutting.

I assume you are getting paid properly for the extra hours?

BeenBeta, yes I am. With my admin had on it is me that puts through all the overtime. Perhaps I could be 'generous' with my OT this month Grin. Not that I would really do such a thing.

You are right about the agency staff. We have had them in before with no real problems and have someone from the agency in just now as a Carer as we are short staffed there too.
