Change of working pattern

I work nights, my LO is 14 months old and working nights fits in so well with family life, i see alot more of my baby and my childcare is arranged around my work.

However management has said one of us will have to move to days to cover staffing levels.

I'm so stressed out, worring it will be me, i've heard that other staff members have been talking about my child care behind my back saying why should they go to days if i dont.

If i go onto days i loose valuable time with my LO and she is so young. I'm the only one with a child under 12 years old.

Any advice

Put in a flexible working request or speak to your management.

You can refuse a change in contracts stating childcare as an issue which would make it unreasonable.

Doesn't mean that the company would not be able to force a change to days if they really wanted but that if they did you'd be able to claim redundancy if you left.

Presumably there is no need to put in a flexible working request as your current arrangement works perfectly well?

How are they planning to decide who they are going to try to move to days? If others have no childcare to worry about I'm surprised they would prefer to stay on nights tbh - I would have thought there would be no shortage of volunteers!
