Direct Care Payments, who can they be paid to?

I've seen one or two private ads for "carer wanted, must be able to receive Direct Care payments"

Would I be able to apply for these jobs?

I am self employed, doing various odd jobs to eke a living; do you have to be a recognised / registered health worker to be paid this money? I assume familys are using it to buy in care, does the council have to approve the carer, and if so, does anyone know the procedure?

I looked after my mother for many years, and have lots of experience coping with very challenging dementia, but I have no formal caring or medical qualifications.Would I be a suitable candidate?

I would actually love to do it.

I employ people using direct payments. 90% are employed and I am responsible for their paye.

Occasionally someone is self employed sometimes the council have asked for proof - lots of times they haven't.
You may need to be crb checked.

You are usually emoyed direct by the person receiving dp's btw. I have a payroll company that sorts out pay for me. I phone through hours they send me the payslips and I then pay the workers.

Yes you could apply, you will have to have a CRB check, I have 6 DP workers for my three kids.
