Am due back at work soon and trying to make up my mind whether to go back 3 or 4 days a week. My head says 4 for finacial reasons but my heart says 3 as I love spending time with my boys. My salary is £35000, how do I work out what I would get paid if I reduce hours. Is dividing by 5 and multiply by 3 or 4 pretty accurate?

right divide by 52, then by the normal hours (37.5 - 40) then times by the hours you will be doing, then times by 52. this will give you yearly rate. then divide by 12 if you want monthly

Be sure to take off tax and IN too

Once you've divided by 5 and multiplying by 3 or 4, you can use this to work out how much you'll get a month

lisad123isgoingcrazy: That is a very long way to say yes. Divide by 5 and times by 3 or 4 will give you the right answer.

well yes but at least its right Grin My work always insisted on hours not days, sorry Blush

That is just gross pay though. Net pay will be different due to the larger proportion which is tax-free.

If you are going back a normal four day week (i.e. 0.8 of your previous week), you just multiply by that, so 0.8 for four days, 0.7 for 3.5, 0.6 for three...

Then use a salary calculator like iresign to calculate the net. Many people I know are surprised by the difference between 3 and 4 days - the difference can be less than you might think because of the tax bands.
