Has anyone else been offered this? I'm seriously considering it. I'd get 3 months full pay for buggering off as a Band 7 OT so they could give my job to someone cheaper. Sorry to sound flippant but that's the Gist of it.

Anyone else thinking about it?

good luck with whatever you decide - keep us informed

"I just think things are bad and getting worse - in lots of ways. "

My children are 3 and 1. I think they will learn about the NHS in history lessons. Mummy and Daddy will have their employer health insurance :(
I love working for the NHS and never thought I'd choose to leave.

Theres no way I will right now. Although more than ever I wish I was 63 instead of 39 and could afford to take it!!

GoWest, no idea if it is relevant, but I know you arent entitles to support like house benfit etc if you take MARS

Its all quite depressing tho isnt it?

we have had an email sent to us regarding VR. I work as aband 7 physiotherapist in a PCT. I'm not sure what they are going to offer. I am 62 and in the 1995 pension scheme, our trust allows us to work until 65. I have only 3 years left to retire and have 20 years continuous service in the nhs, 17 years in the trust.I have not contacted my line manager for fear of being chucked out because I am already past my normal retirement age.I looked at nhsba website and I understand that they would pay me one month's pay for every year that I have worked and this would be good. Any comments?

where I work people approaching pensionable age were offered a redundancy optoin or a redundancy/enhanced pension option

pinkteddy · 24/10/2010 13:48

smilax, I think they should pay you VR and make up your pension to 65. That's what I would be negotating for you if I was your union rep!

Gowest I don't see why they can't offer you redundancy - as far as I'm aware, they would still be able to recruit to that post on a lower grade - the band 7 job would be redundant. Obviously it would cost them more but would be a better deal for you. Are you a union member? If you are negotiating a compromise agreement, I would negotiate a reference as part of that too.

I work in the NHS and personally the only people who I can see gets a good deal out of MARS are people who want to take some time out to do other things, with no commitments(mortgage, kids etc) and have only been employed for a couple of years, otherwise I'd wait for redundancy or reducing my hours if youre fed up with work. On a wider note what worries me about the NHS now is in the drive to save money they are employing people without the relevant qualifications and training to do the jobs of experienced health staff. At our trust we have had a big increase in support workers for OT, psychologists, physio, dietiticians and speech therapists who have been given clinical responsibilities which they are not qualified to perform. I fear for the poorer quality of advice clients are given and in the worst case scenario public safety. I've decided from now if I'm referred to any NHS service I'm going to personally check the qualifications of the person treating me.
