Hi. I am sure there are some of us on here. I am due to start back at work at a new job soon and I need to get up to speed on an aspect of company law that I cannot get my head round as I cannot find any summaries of it and was wondering if some kind psl could try and explain this to me or are least point me in the right direction. Are there any corporate psls out there? Thanks v much

Do you have access to PLC? - maybe via your new job? Great starting point, for nearly everything.

In case that didn't ring a bell, uk.practicallaw.com/

No I have looked. I need an overview even before I csn use PLC to try nd look in more detail. I agree though generally PLC is fab!

What's the issue then, or is it confidential?

goingbacktowork · 25/09/2010 09:20

No not at all. It is uk corporate governance.

I have to get up to speed - there are various codes, good practice etc from many different bodies and I need to know what is still in force and what has been superceded and which applies to what types of bodies. It is not so complicated a topic but it is something I think you need to understand the framework of to read further into.

I would really expect PLC to have a starter overview on that - do you want me to have a rootle?

I had to do a fast up the curve on senior accounting officers/D&O liability insurance last week (not my area in any way) and PLC got me on track in minutes.

Yes please. I need to know about things like the new combined code, higgs, NAPF guidance, ABI gidelines etc etc(in no particular order of importance). That is why an overview of what is at least current and how much there is is really important. Thanks

There is a free OU online course on Corporate Governance which might be a good place to start, not sure if this link works

goingbacktowork · 25/09/2010 17:54

oh i am getting excited now - off to checkout this evening. Thanks

Hsve checked the OU course but it is more concepts then the practical codes etc.

YOu need the PLC practice note ideally - but this is a decent place to start here

goingbacktowork · 26/09/2010 22:43

Oh that link is good thanks. I have PLC I just cannot find a summary page - there is lots of detail on PLC about specific items but I really want an overview and a categoric statement (where relevant) that something has been superceded etc. If you can find a plc link please post. Are you a psl or someone that is just clever? Thanks

oh Bink where have you gone?

Sorry MN only outside office hours!

Where I would start is with the "Guide to PLC's Corporate Governance Materials", which is a maintained practice note (and the first item that comes up on "Corporate governance", which is the third topic under Company law on the corporate start page). I would just grind through that, following up each topic detail once I had a sense of the overall architecture. I am not sure you can be more overview than that without missing the detail. I do think PLC is v good on architecture.

Or you could start with the dedicated overview note on the UK Corporate Governance Code (rather than the overview on all materials), plus read the parallel overview note on the Combined Code to know what's been moved on from. I think the developments tracker is what you need as to what's been superseded.

Thanks so much. I will start this when I get back into the office this week. This has been very helpful. I think when I do understand this I will write an idiots overview so that the lawyers can just see the bits they do need to know rather then everything - even superceded material. What do you do? Are you a psl or fee earner?
