Advice for annoying disability please

Strange title I know, but I have a disability which means that some days I am absolutely fine (well, slight pain) and other days I am unable to get out of bed. And it's not always predictable.

My motability ranges from can walk/stand, to can only just walk but can't stand still, to can't sit up - sometimes all in the same day.

I've just found out that I may be like this for the rest of my life, there is no magic cure, at the grand old age of 26. I've already put my life on hold for the last 18 months while undergoing tests and treatment, and I'm tired of doing nothing so young - and of being reliant on income support.

My difficulty is that all the jobs I have done in the past are in areas that I don't think I could physically manage anymore. Eg. retail.

Good as I was at retail, all day on my feet will probably result in 4 or 5 days spent in bed recovering.

Office work is also difficult due to the fact I can't always sit up (thankfully I have a laptop at home and so can sit comfortably) so would need an employer who is either happy to let me work from home regularly, or who could provide me with an individually designed workspace.

So I need to think creatively about what I want to do, and how to do it. Which is where I would love some advice?

My previous jobs were mainly retail (usually supervisory/responsible), photo lab management and maintenance, I also did data entry (as a team leader) and database management.

I'm tech minded and can do web design (though really need better knowledge of coding), and most of my qualifications are in Art disciplines. Though I got good passes on all the main academics (eng, maths, science)

Before all this went wrong I was considering becoming a teaching assistant, but don't know how keen schools would be on TA's with mobility issues.

I'm planning on trying to learn sign language though, so wonder if maybe it is worth taking that route?

I really don't know what to do right now, my back problems have really thrown me.

There is an organisation called skill that might be of use for you- could be worthwhile finding them. I thought they were just for students, but DH says they are for jobseekers as well.

Good luck!

I have a friend who does QA on recorded phone calls - you know when you ring the bank or someone and the recorded message says "this call may be recorded for quality and training purposes" - she is the person who listens to the recording and reports back. She works from home with a PC and headphones - maybe you could do something like that?
