I've been promoted! But no-one seems happy about it except me!

I've been promoted, and not just one grade up, but two (which is very very rare). My boss said "Goodness!" (and nothing else - I am now the same grade as her). Her boss told me frankly that he didn't think I was up to it. The head of our office said he was surprised, and was I?

No-one said well done or congratulations. And they wonder why morale is low in our office??

I got the promotion from our head office. We can put ourselves forward for promotion and no-one at our local office needs to know about it. They look at what you've been doing, write it all up and interview you and there you go, you either get it or you don't. I know this sounds mad, but it's one of the ways it works: head office decide, not the local one. Similarly, I got a bonus from head office last year and no-one I worked with knew anything about it! Someone I'd done a lot of work for in head office was impressed with me and recommended me for a bonus, it didn't have to go through where I work at all.
