Life coaching any one?

I'm interested whether anyone has tried life-coaching when they're facing career or work/life issues. I have twice (before having my son and when deciding on a major career change post pregnancy).

How did you find it? I found that it helped me break through some major blockages. As a result, I have recently started a diploma in life-coaching myself and am looking for volunteers to coach (at no cost - although anybody delighted with the results is welcome to make a donation to charity). If any one is interested in getting some free coaching, then please get in touch with me or visit my website.

But really I am just interested in finding out how useful people (particularly mums like myself struggling with work/life balance) have found it.

I'd be really interested. I have been on a 9 year career break and my youngest started school last week, leaving me in a bit of a quandry as to what to do with the rest of my life, despite having thought of little else for the last year.

This is something I've considered on a number of occasions in relation to trying to balance out my home/work life after having my daughter, and right now after DD2. I've never done it, however, as I'm unsure as to whether it would make enough of a difference to justify the cost. One problem in particular is that I'm based in Scotland where there seem to be relatively few life coaches around and I'm not sure whether such an exercise via the phone would have as positive a benefit as in person.

Hi Pinkpanettone. If you'd care to contact me by e-mail or via this site,I'd be happy to tell you more about coaching and how we could work on these types of issues.

I am really keen to develop my experience of working with mums and as life-work balance and returning to work (full/part time/ employed/self-employed) is something I have grappled with over the years myself!

If you don't want to e-mail, give me a call and, if I am not there, leave a number and I will get back to you. BW, Sarah

Hi Dontrunwithscissors. Coaching can be done on the phone and, in fact, that is the way most life-coaches now work. I have a broadband package and Skype so if you have a geographic number or Skype, calls would be free too!

Like I said in my previous post, I am not charging anything as I am still building up my qualifying hours, so am just looking for volunteers...

Otherwise, costs can vary. In my own personal experience, life coaching has been useful when I eas at a particular crossroads or just generally felt that I was lacking direction...which< I guess, is why I decided to tarin to become one....

Dontrunwithscissors, I am a coach, I live in Scotland and there are lots of coaches. I can suggest some for you if you say the area you live in.

I agree with Sarah about telephone coaching being effective, or skype, or even online / email coaching (in fact I am doing a comparative study on the effectiveness of each as part of my phD studies. However I have manay clients who prefer that at least the first contact is face-to-face, it is how we expected communication to occur until quite recently.

Hi all .. Life coaching especially combined with NlP can be amazing. It can really give people time, space to think clarify, look at the best options and develop better habits of thinking - and thus help them develop good habits for life. I too am a life coach, and NLLP practitioner, having previously worked as a community and specialist health visitor - there are a great many coaches around. Like all spheres of work you will find people that you resonate with and have confidence in to help you get where you want to go.
I wish you luck in your studying and for those wanting to try out coaching - try it - you will be amazed what a difference it can make in so many aspects of your life.

Best wishes Clara www.makethatdifference.org
