SAHM, not sure about going back to work

Have two DSs, 2.8 and 13m. Have been SAHM since DS1 was 12m. We're just about covering our expenses every month (no money for luxuries though).

I've been contacted about a job similar to what I was doing before (well-paid in the city). Only catch it'll have to be FT. The extra income would certainly come in handy as we are unable to save anything at the moment, but not sure if I can handle missing out on the kids during the week.

What would you do?

Enjoy your children! Get a part time job, or work from home if you need to.

I think my children are my luxuries!

If you've been actually headhunted to a city job I'm sure you could find something part time if you wanted to. You sound very desirable!

Well, if I could turn back time I would take the job.

Some people get ill, some other die, some marriages end, jobs are lost, circumstances change. I have learned through bad experience that I would be in a better position to provide for myself and my son in the short, medium and long term, if I had not fully trusted that things were going to be ok and DS's dad would provide for us.

Thanks. I am leaning towards taking it and then applying for part time once I've been there a little while.

Suzihaha - I've done just what you suggest when my DS1 was 8 months and my DD1 was 26 months. I took the job full time and I have just gone part time now (back tomorrow) after child n.4!!!

It did work out really well for us, as it allowed us to move to a much better house in a much more desirable area and give me the chance to go part time now.

So I would be inclined to go for it, you can always leave if you think it's too much! Or take parental leave (they have to give it to you buy law).
