Redunancy notice period running into maternity leave

Hi,
I have found out that I'm at risk of redundancy and as yet have not had my consultancy meeting. I have been with the company over 8 years and next week is my 8th week before I leave for maternity. I was wondering if anyone knew where I stand as regards notice period that goes into maternity leave? If the notice period goes into maternity does it mean that they are making me redundant while on maternity leave. Or as I was informed before hand it is just normal redundancy.

Cheers

If your employment actually ends while you are on maternity leave then yes they are making you redundant while on maternity leave.

Why do you ask? Do you think there is or will be a suitable job available for you?

I might not have asked the question in quite the right way, I'm quite confused by the whole thing at the moment!
I'm trying to find out if they have to implement my notice period before I start on maternity leave, or if it can run over whilst I'm pregnant and then into maternity leave?

I cannot seem to find any info about this and as my 8th week starts on Monday I thought it might be relevant.

You are still an employee whilst on maternity leave, so your notice can run into your maternity leave.

The relevance of this is, as Flowery mentioned, just to the issue of redeployment.

Is there a particular reason why you are asking?

I found out about this by accident, I'm not supposed to know. I am therefore researching as best I can so that when it comes along I am as prepared as I can be with a thought to arguing my case.

Ribenaberry has answered my question though

Thanks

Can you tell us what case it is that you're hoping to argue?

You can be made redundant during maternity leave - the extra safeguards mean that you cannot be made redundant owing to pregnancy/parental issues; but it will not automatically insulate you if they need, for example, to cut a whole function or area. You do however retain the right to be offered a suitable equivalent post. And maternity pay is protected.

Good luck, and I hope you find a good way through this.

Thanks onimolap,
I was looking at the maternity angle to see if there was anything to help.

I also have a question about a colleague who was employed 2 months after me in the same role. We both got moved out to site as the budget centre we were employed under needed to off load some employee costs, I am still on site which is were the redunancies are planned but her site work finished before mine and she has gone back to the office and is avoiding any redundancy as a result. I am not sure if the contract by contract arguement stands or whether they should be taking into account the fact that we are under the same budget centre/department.
