Taking mat leave from one employer and continuing to work for second employer: possible?

Can anyone give me any advice?

I work for two employers and am a bit confused about maternity leave which starts in Dec 10.

I work 15 hours a week for my main employer and will be taking 9 months maternity leave.

For my second employer I work 5 hours a week from home for 6 months of the year. I have only been working for them for 4 months so am not entitled to SMP (and wages are to low anyway). I would like to continue working for this employer when I am on mat leave from my main employer. Am I allowed to do this or will I lose my SMP from my main employer?

Does that make sense? Can anyone help or suggest who I should contact to ask for advice. HR from the different employers don't know.

Thanks in advance

Hi, I worked for 2 employers and received 2 lots of SMP, job 1 was 15 hrs p/w and job 2 was 22.5 hrs per week. So should think that continuing to work for your 'little' job should not affect your SMP. Try jobcentre plus or CAB for further info. Hope this helps. And congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

Thanks for replying. Hadn't thought of CAB - will give them a ring tomorrow.

DWP guidance says "Your SMP will stop if after the baby is born but before the end of the Maternity Pay Period, you work for an employer who did not employ you in the qualifying week. It is your responsibility to tell the employer paying you SMP about your new job. You must do this as soon as possible, and make sure you return any SMP payment you get that covers the week you started work and any part of the period after you resumed work."

Your qualifying week is the 15th week before your due date, so sounds as though you will be fine.
