worried about work after mat leave

Just need a bit of advice really. I work in a sales job and will go on mat leave soon. I am about to be put on a pip as i am not meeting sales targets (no one is, i work in a high st bank and it's dire!)

I have found it difficult since returning to work after first mat leave as am now ptime. The pip will make no difference as i can't stay late and cold call and i already work saturdays even though i am not contracted to do this.

I'm just worried that i'll not be taken back after mat leave or that i'll be moved elsewhere, somewhere harder to get to. Also, one woman who came back off mat leave after me has been moved to a different branch and another was not taken back at all. apparently she consulted the union but they were no help.

does anyone know where i stand legally?

What's pip?

performance improvement plan. Because i work ptime, i don't really get the chance to see that many customers so find it hard to meet targets. this is why i work every other saturday as there is more footfall then.

I really think i'm being set up to fail and then this will be used as an excuse not to have me back after mat leave Sad

NanBullen - I feel for you as I am in the same field of work as you and I also work part-time.

I work for a high street bank in as a PBA - it is not a role I chose previously I worked as a manger but was told I could not do the role part-time(a whole other story).

I haven't worked in direct sales for over 10 years but here I am working 3 out of 4 Saturdays (as you say the footfall is better so more chance of sales)

I work 3 days and currently on annual leave - I will be put on a PIP when I get back. My Branch Manager agrees it is because I work part-time - I am not forefront in the CSA's mind to book appointments as they have to think about what days I am in - and because I am not higher up in the league tables they are then less likely to book apt for me - it is a catch 22 situation.

My BM is very helpful and keen to help me but can only do so much. She has agreed to let me have 2 min at every morning meeting so I have a higher profile in the Branch - would something like that work for you?

It is very stressful though - I want to do a good job but sales above customer service is the overriding message.

Can you change roles? I want to be a yoga teacher - in my dreaming moments.....

NanBullen they have to "take you back" after your Mat Leave. Under 6 months into the same job over 6 months into a similar job.

I doubt they could use a pip to get rid of you before your mat leave (i.e. in under 6 months) and in any case would be advisable they didn't as it would leave them open to possible tribuneral.

So until your mat leave is up don't worry about it.

thankyou for your replies. I'm trying not to worry about it and just enjoy the pregnancy and i certainly don't want to be worrying about it when the baby arrives.

I would love a different job! But as i've worked in the same job for 10 years the money is good and i think it would be hard to find another job with the same salary (any less and it wouldn't be worth me working after paying childcare)

I hate the whole sales above customer service message too pippylongstocking. I wish i could win the lottery!
