Hi,

I have my own cleaning business.
Started off on my own 3 years ago and now I have 10 members of staff and we are about to go limited and into partnership with another local company.

You are waaaaayyyy too cheap! We started off charging £10 per hour, and we are now £11 per hour. Commercials we charge £13 per hour. Albeit we provide our own cleaning materials and equipment and are fully insured, I have several friends who are one man bands who charge £10 per hour.

You will find that after you have been doing a few months at £6 per hour you will want to put your price up as you are not making enough, and then your customers will moan about the hike, so start as you mean to go on. Cheap is not always the best and doesn't always attract clients.

If you envisage having staff in the future, you will have to pay them at least £6 per hour so at your current price, it will cost you to work.
Starting out is hard, as the more customers you have the more enquiries you will get, cos if you are good the best form of advertisement is your existing clients and they will do all the leg work for you. Noone wants to be your first customer so don't say that you are just starting out.
However, a free listing on yell.com is a good place to get your name out there.
Good luck

Ange :)

I have had quite a few cleaners over the years, both companies and people who work for themselves. Our current cleaner charges £8 ph. I saw her add in our local chip shop - she had a little card on the noticeboard in there, all kinds of very useful businesses on that board!! Initially she started off ironing for us but has moved on to clean for us.
