Thinking about doing this as a charity fundraiser.

Anyone got any advice, tips or ideas?

Thanks

Basically, you open your home as a restaurant for a night. Move out all the sofas and put tables and chairs in etc, then either invite people or advertise it.

Lots of links on the web.

I am not sure whether I will need a liquor licence.

Also, I have not decided whether to sell tickets, or to ask for donations on the night (in which case I am not really selling the food or booze, I am just giving it to people in the hope they will give me cash).

Do Bring your own for the drinks - that way you don't need a licence - the local indian does this as they havn't got a licence Smile

I would keep the meals simple and stuff you can keep in a hostess or slow cooker - that way service will not be long winded

Say three good casserole type meals

Coq au vin, Beef Bourginon and a curry?

Then serve with rice or green vegtables - pop them in a steamer

I would stay away from donations and sell tickets before hand - then at least you will have some idea of how much food to buy

ice cream for dessert or banoffi pie

pate and toast for starter - think cold starters for ease - as you will have to have hot mains

thnk cold desserts for pudding for the same reason

Thank Ivykaty. I think you are right about the food.

I'll definitely have to book seats in advance, but I am veering toward donations.

I am going to investigate the licence issue a bit more, because BYOB seems a little declasse and I want it to be a high end event. Also, if I can get some wine donated it can up the overall take of the event.

Licence for an event, if approved by the council, is £21, so not too bad.
