Working from the home - what do you do?

Will be TTC next year.

My current job isn't compatible with family life, so will either change to be in a less high-powered job or I would like to start my own business to work out of the home.

Unfortunatly I have no idea what I would do for my own business!

What do you do?

Hello

I'm a single mum with a toddler. I left my job to come home to family when I left my ex, and had difficulty finding a job I was happy with, for a salary that wasn't negated by childcare costs. I'm now a successful Usborne Books Rep, with a flourishing team.

It's flexible around your family - I go to lots of toddler-orientated things that I can take mine along to - and you can work as much as you like, when you like. Many people have grown their businesses into full-time salaries, earning £2k/month and more (the largest commission payment was £23k FOR ONE MONTH in Nov 2008!).

I really enjoy it and so does my lo as he gets to pay with lots of other children and gets lots of free books!

Drop me an email [email protected] if you'd like more info.

try a tumble tots / gymbobs / waterbabies / messypups / tinytalk type franchise?

What is your current job? Are there any aspects of it you could use to specialise or provide expertise?

Otherwise might be a case of looking at your skills e.g. cooking, music, working with people and finding something you could develop. Doing a course part time/evenings might help...

I went from payroll to Childminding after my DD was born. Childcare had never crossed my mind before becoming a mum. It took 6 months to go through the registration process but I wanted to make it a career and in 6 yrs have gone from totally unqualified to gaining a foundation degree in Early Years. I started Childminding just before she turned 1 and haven't stopped since! I'm turning over 20k plus of which im able to offset a good proportion against tax. i.e. Car, computer, utility bills. And most importantly, through it all I've still been able to be a full time mum. Plus, my daughter loves having lots of 'ready made friends' and is very sociable as a result.

Betterware is always good, it's what I do and they don't try and sell you a pipe dream it really is out there if you go for it. You're not going to make stacks of cash at the start - they are quite honest about that but it is flexible work, a business that builds and if you stick at it you're on a very decent hourly rate!

There are no start up fees/costs either so they really do want you to do well-it's in their interest! Grin
You can take your kids along with you also!
My manager Sophie covers the Abingdon, Witney, Faringdon areas etc in Oxon and she really is good - she tries to make sure that everyone in her team is looked after in each of her differing areas, she knows where the sales are and puts you in those areas near you rather than areas which are fairly pointless. If you live in the same area as me I would give it a shot! I can put anyone in touch with her if you like? She can probably explain it better than I can! But I can't recommend her enough
