Hello, my name is Emily. I'm a mum of 2 boys (3 & 6) and I'm working part time at Southampton airport.

My goal is to be a work at home mum with my own online business helping mums to do the same.

It's early days but I wanted to see what other mums are up to and how they are juggling the work- family balance.

I'm looking forward to chatting to you guys and helping when I can.

Bye for now,

Emily:)

Hi Emily

I also have 2 boys who are 2 and 4. I am self employed and work mainly from home but do visit clients as and when needed. I do this because I want to be able to work hours to fit in with the boys. ie work 9-3 then spend some time with them before bedtime then if I need to i start again in the evening.

What is it you were wanting to do online- I am intrigued!

Hi Annie, thanks for the reply.

My idea is to start with an ebook for Mums, "A guide to realising Your dreams, Pursuing Your Happiness and Still be the best Mum Ever"

This will be backed up with online coaching and ultimately workshops for empowering Mums and giving them back their sparkle.

It's early days yet but that's my dream,

Emily

Hi I was made redundant whilst on maternity leave and a friend of mine introduced me to something called my shopping genie. Must admit i thought it was too good to be true but now I earn enough money to stay at home and look after my daughter and fit around her schedule. Check it out at www.myshoppinggenie.com/genuinesavings
If you've got a good network of friends or not bad a selling then this is a great way to earn money. Good Luck!

Bibbs, I downloaded that genie thing, but search results were for American websites, so I uninstalled it again, since I suspect delivery to Scotland would exceed any savings I would make. Is there some way to fix this?

Thorpster - I take it your youngest will have started school by the time you work from home - that would mean you generally would be working from home during school hours?

I know people who do it, but I could not work from home with my child at home. I'm a writer and work 8.30am to 5.30pm whilst my toddler daughter is in fulltime daycare. But when she starts school then I will work during the school hours.

I've found that self-discipline is the greatest predictor in whether you will be successful working from home. I am very strict with my working hours at home and, aside from mid morning, mid afternoon and lunch breaks - I solidly work.

If your children are out of the house and you are self-disciplined then absolutely working from home will be successful.

I work from home with two DC's (8 and 5)I think you need to be very focused and get work done in school hours, for me that means no breaks from the computer, head down and working.

School holidays are very difficult and even though I reduce the hours I work, clients still want their work doing and as a self employed person in these troubled times I don't like to turn down work so I do find myself working when the children are around - in fact I spent all day yesterday at my desk trying to work.

I find I work much harder now than I ever did and am wracked with guilt during the holidays and weekends when I work as I do feel my DC's are being neglected - although to be fair they are very good at playing together and have been known to tell me to go and do some work when I try to join in their games.

Best of luck with your venture - I think I could do with some coaching from you Grin

I work from home too! I have three DSs. I find school holidays hard but I managed to get about two-hours per day done in the holidays (when DS3 naps and DS1 and DS2 are happy to play by themselves while mummy works). I am a freelance editorial project manager and work for academic publishing, publishing books on a subscription website. All good fun. Juggling is hard but it's very fulfilling I find.

There are so many freelance mums around doing the same thing! We're so lucky we can do this. My mum's generation couldn't.

I work from home doing direct sales, it does involve going out of an evening but for me that was part of the appeal. There are lots of opptions out there but I went with Jamie at Home. I love it & it's so easy to fit around my family.
The management oppertunities are amazing, as are the insentives. Check out www.jamieathome.com my ID is 35535.
