New job-should I ask for more holiday?

Hello all

I have been offered a new job and have accepted a significant pay cut (over 15k) because the job is more local and good hours.

I got through the offer letter this morning and they only offer 22 days holiday (increasing to 27 after a few years). I used to be on 25 days and my husband (lucky thing) has 30 days. Do I ask for more? In previous job moves I've requested more and they have given it to me. However, in those jobs the employer seemed really keen to accomodate me. This job however they have not compromised on anything and it does seem to be a 'take it or leave it' type of approach and I don't want to get a reputation before I start as being difficult.

Asd a compormise I was wondering whether to request an extra 3 days but for them to count as unpaid leave until i 'officially' earn them through service. Do I offer this fonly if they don't agree to more holiday or do I volunteer this?

What do you reckon? I don't want to appear greedy, but I have accepted a big pay cut and holidays are very important to me as my husband works long hours and also my family live a long way away, so I use quite a few long weekends visiting them.

Opinions appreciated.

I assume you mean 22 days plus bank holidays. I think this is fair and what most people get.

Yes 22 days plus bank holidays.

If you want the job I would take it and discuss holiday at a later date once you've proved you are an asset.

Taking a few extra days as unpaid holiday especially if you don't take sick leave unneccessarily, shouldn't really be a problem. I agree if you ask before you get the job it doesn't look great on you.

I dont think 22 days is that little. It seems to be the avergae. I got 20 days in my last role.

It is difficult to agree to more holiday for employees because it is very visable to tohers, unlike pay.

i.e your colleagues may resent you for having longer holidays and your employer doesnt need the hassle.

You can ask of course but I dont think you'll get.

Got this from direct gov website. think it means that if you work 5 days a week the minimum leave you have to be given is 5.6 weeks which is 28 days which can inlcude bank hols
