giving notice and annual leave

i am going to give notice to my employer next week.

im obliged to give a weeks notice but really had wanted to give more if possible as a courtesy really more than anything else.

thing is the week after im on annual leave anyway.

does it seem stupid to give notice so that my last working day falls within the annual leave? will i still get holiday pay?

not sure what to do.
your thoughts would be appreciated!

If you've accrued the holiday they have to pay you for it.

If you give a 2 weeks notice but your on holiday for the last week that's not really giving more than a weeks notice? Or am I missing something.

If you're only going to work the next week just keep things simple and give the weeks notice needed in your contract.

so you would just give a week then to leave employment before my annual leave starts.

no your not missing anything - it just made me feel less guilty about leaving them short staffed by giving the illusion i am giving more than a weeks notice!!

Some employers don't allow annual leave to be taken in a notice period, so I think you would be wiser to give notice with a clear week before you go on holiday if possible.

figured as much bran. i guess if ive accrued it i will get paid it and if not i wont.

just feel a bit bad for giving a week but hey ho. thats my contractual obligation so i shouldnt feel bad.

Don't feel bad, remember they could also give you a weeks notice and they wouldn't feel bad.

well i did it today.

no one else knows, but my senior manager was so lovely about it and was so pleased for me in my new career that i do feel really rather guilty about leaving them in the lurch.

shame i didnt work with her really. i hardly ever saw her but she couldnt have been nicer.

am going to enjoy some time off before the madness starts next month!
