My dh has been looking for work for 2 years and I am desperately worried for his mental wellbeing. He has applied for hundreds of jobs with no luck. He has qualifications, eight years of experience in his field and is very articulate and presentable.
He is convinced searching online is a waste of time as no one ever responds. He has done agency work out of desperation in the past, but he is in his 40's and would love something permenant. Any ideas greatly recieved.

What is his field?

high level security/similiar to a Policeman. He is not English, but comes from the EU. Therefore he can't apply for big government jobs as his parents aren't English and he has not been a resident in the UK long enough to be allowed to apply for our Police forces.
Sorry if I seem elusive, but you never know who in RL may be reading this do you?

Just wanted to add my sympathy although I can't be much help.

I don't suppose he went to University in the UK, did he? If so, his University Careers Service might be able to offere some help.

If it's of any help, I did recently read a report about graduate job seekers from a Careers Service, saying that they were having more success by getting students to make small numbers of very targeted applications, not necessarily for posts that were being advertised, rather than applying for large numbers of jobs that fitted their work less well.

Is your DH able to do some voluntary work to keep him sane? That should give him much more self worth, and give him something to put on his CV.

How about starting somewhere no matter how lowly - large supermarkets have security on the door. It would be regular work with a recognised company and a step to somewhere
