Exmouth is probably the best - miles and mile long too.
There's Lyme Regis, too.
Get a tide timetable. LYme's known for fossils, though it's likely that the last few years of landslips will uave covered them up. (THe other place you might find fossils is Seatown. There's a fantastic pub on the cliff, overlooking the beach, which does really good food, or used to - haven't been there for years mind.)
In Honiton there are lots of antique shops. Also a pottery painting place which does food downstairs, good to fill a rainy afternoon. They have a small museum which has some pretty cool stuff in it, there's an art gallery, and a soft play place.
OTtery has a fab church, more like a cathedral, really!
Broadhembury is a lovely village - almost the archetypal English country village. There's a pub which does nice food and is very family friendly - all the locals take their kids there and they all just make friends and have splendid adventure game en masses in and around the garden.
The Combe House Hotel is a centuries old manor house, still occupied by the same family who have had it for centuries. Amazing food, and they do afternoon tea if you want a real treat.
