The continuing story of how Team Woolly Hugs does running. All newcomers very welcome!

Our first fabulous runner, PiggyPlumPie has been there, done that and quite literally has the tshirt (gorgeous btw) and we are looking forward to more runs taking place round the country, and further afield maybe?

We are doing this to support the Billie's Blanket Project being run by the Woolly Hugs community, see here This project was launched as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday. In Billie's name, and through World Child Cancer we will send little blankets to children who are suffering from cancer, and who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after. Our first batch has already gone to Malawi, the next will go to Ghana and Bangladesh.

We are helping raise funds so that alongside Billie's Blankets, we can send a donation to World Child Cancer. Money is so scarce, they really have so little. There will be other fundraising events this year, but we are RUNNING!

These are where the 5K runs will takeplace, they are all over. But even if you run round the block and someone sponsors you to do so, it all counts!

Our Just Giving Page is here. Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in. At this moment we are up to £1,116.33, where will be be when this thread is full?!

Enter established events soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you are running so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things, the support here is awesome and we love Piggy's idea of tying a woolly bracelet on to run, then we are all with you as you go. Smile

MNWoollyHugs on Facebook - come and find us, you can still remain anonymous Smile

For novices....Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  • Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.

  • Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.

  • Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.

  • Open front door and go outside.

  • Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support.

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

I thought of you all when I woke up and heard the rain this morning. Is it the Crystal Palace run you're doing? I'd come along to cheer you on but I'm taking DD1 to the MN screening of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.

I always find the rain makes me go faster cos I want to get home [helpful]Grin

BIWI · 13/10/2013 08:09

Good point Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/10/2013 14:36

Wine and Cake and Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/10/2013 18:07

We certainly do. We also creak sometimes, but mostly, we rock!

Came home, my son made me a cuppa and lit our fire, bless him.

Now on the Wine

London is done.....

Well done to you all! Bet that cuppa and fire was fab!

Yes, Nov 3rd, I'm up to 7K in my training runs, and would be further if I didn't keep getting colds, so I'm a bit worried about the day itself. Had a throat infection 2 weeks ago and now just getting over a chesty cold, arggh! But I will do it. Am dosing up on vit c and washing my hands every 2 minutes to ward off any other nasties.

Anyone got any good iPod suggestions?

I put up the Justgiving link a couple of weeks ago on FB, and will do it again in the next couple of days - have sponsored a couple of people recently so hopefully they will return the favour!

jellybrain · 16/10/2013 16:21

£127 + gift aid paid onto Woolly Hugs just giving page. Which will be £317 when doubled by Mumsnet HQ. I've about £30 still to collect then there's £20 on my page so, a grand total of £367- not quite my £500 target but not bad,Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/10/2013 17:42

Oh Jelly, that really is marvellous, absolutely fantastic, you really are a star, HUGE THANKS xx

Some ipod suggestions for you Coffee
Don't Stop me now-Queen
Born to Run- Bruce Springsteen
Beautiful Day- the Levellers
The dog days are over - Florence and the Machine

Will need to check the rest, these were chosen because they feature the word 'run' in the lyrics somewhere except for the Levellers which is a good one for a miserable day. I have no idea about paceGrin
The Queen one is very motivating !! "I'm travelling at the speed of light.... Lalalala"

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 17/10/2013 21:28

Thanks Jelly, I have Queen and Florence, and have also got the Bruce track on my laptop somewhere so thanks for the reminder! I had forgotten about the Levellers but that is a good track so I will look out for it.

I agree about the Queen track! Very motivating. My favourite track to run to is What you waiting for? by Gwen Stefani, always gives me a boost. Tubthumping by Chumbawumba is good too.

Pace doesn't bother me, as long as I make it round Grin

Thank you Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 17/10/2013 22:33

I had Tubthumping by Chumbawumba Grin

Coffee - you need I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor) and Mr Blue Sky (ELO) Grin

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 19/10/2013 11:20

OhOne Grin

The prospect of blue sky in Plymouth is minimal! I managed a 5.5K run this morning which I was OK with as I haven't run for a week with my cold. I also have willing grandparents lined up to let me go out training in the afternoons so I'm hoping to be back on track.

Keep the music ideas coming! My iPod ran out of charge last week - I couldn't believe how much worse I was at running without it.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2013 11:31

Mr Blue Sky will always make me think of you OhOne!

Will have a think, see what is on mine X

DS2 (11) and I spent an afternoon in the car with a CD of James Bond theme tunes, some of which sounded like good running songs Grin.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2013 13:59

I can't believe DS2 is 11??????

No way. Shock

Almost 12 Shock Grin

Wolfcub · 29/10/2013 19:52

ok woollies I did my first couch to 5k this eve. couldn't run all the running sections as I am an unfit fat lump but walked an extra 1.5k for the warm down. The aim is to do the Manchester 10k next May and I'm hoping to do it for the woollies I'd out doesn't kill me first so if no-one minds I'm joining the thread for some inspiration and keeping me on track

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/10/2013 20:27

Well done Wolfcub! And welcome to the Woolly running thread Smile.
