Woolly Hugs Guide to Running

  1. Put down your woolly wool, crochet hooks and needles.
  2. Find your trainers, these are sort of soft bouncy shoe-things that go on your feet.
  3. Find something loose and comfortable to wear, and no we don't mean a caftan.
  4. Open front door and go outside Shock
  5. Put one foot in front of the other with speed and determination!

YOU are RUNNING!!

If you haven't seen Phase 2 of our Little Hugs, the thread is HERE. We launched this phase as a tribute to beautiful Billie, our lovely MrsDeVere's daughter, who devastatingly died at 14 from leukaemia. We launched this at the time of her 21st birthday and we call the project Billie's Blankets in her memory. In her name, and through World Child Cancer, we will send little blankets to children, starting with Malawi and Bangladesh, who really need a Woolly Hug and to feel loved and looked after.

Alongside Billie's Blankets, we are very keen to send a donation to World Child Cancer, as money is scarce, they really have so little. One of the ways we will do this is by running! In May a Woolly Hugs' team will be running the BUPA London 10k, and we are now looking for runners to enter 5K runs throughout the country.

These are where the 5K runs will take place?.. They are all over!

There are already runners committed to running (BIWI, TantrumsandBalloons,me) in London at Crystal Palace on October 13th, and lovely Fizzy and PrettyBird are running in the Glasgow event on July 27th. We would love folk to join with us, or run at a different venue! There is no minimum age and children can be entered, my daughter is running with me, I say with, she will shoot off like a gazelle and I will lumber along. Happily the website says they love fancy dress

Because World Child Cancer isn't a nominated charity we/they ask that you let them know independently. To take pressure off individuals, and to make this a real woolly community effort we recommend that you use our Woolly Hugs Just Giving page for fundraising. Anything you raise will be marvellous, really, and we will all be able to see how much we can raise together.

Our Just Giving Page is HERE Donations are welcome at any time, huge thanks for those already in.

So please have a think, if you are interested, we would recommend entering soon to avoid disappointment. Let us know when you have entered so we can cheer you on, and please use this thread for support, and general running things Couch to 5K apps and playlists for running spring to mind.

The children that WCC support need all the love and comfort possible. So please, in memory of a sparkling young girl who always thought of others, we'd love you to help us help them.

As ever, thank you so much for your support Thanks

Thinking of Billie and her family Xx

Knotty and Pistey

Thanks

Well done BIWI :)

BIWI · 03/02/2013 14:06

I wouldn't have done it without all you lot pushing me though! I don't think it's really my natural forte. Inside and warm is where I prefer to be! (At least hopefully running in the summer will be warmer/give me my daily Vitamin D)

I'm feeling pleasantly achey now, which is also good.

FrankWippery · 03/02/2013 15:41

Well done BIWI. I'm starting my walking DD3 to nursery school in the morning and running back across the Common before doing the same in reverse when I collect her at lunch time. I even bought some actual real trainers so I have appropriate footwear. Def need a sports bra though, or I'll be sporting black eyes by 4pm.

MrsDV I do indeed remember your 10K as DD3 and I braved the elements to greet you at the finish! This is why I expect you to be at the end for us. Like for like and all that Grin

BIWI · 03/02/2013 16:47

MrsDV is going to have to wave a lot of pompoms for us all Grin

When the Glasgow Women's 10k goes past our house, we stand there supporting them while drinking cava out of stemmed glasses totally outing where I live to anyone who has run it - and we offer some to people we know and some we don't (in disposable plastic glasses of course!) GrinWine

BIWI · 04/02/2013 10:59

So is anyone else running? Surely I'm not the only one?

Blatherskite · 04/02/2013 11:18

I'll be doing 10k with my running club tomorrow. Did Level 2 of the Shred today.

CamperWidow · 04/02/2013 11:25

Pistey I've just seen it and it kind of sent a chill of foreboding down my spine! Like, that's it, it's in print, gotta do it now!!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 04/02/2013 11:37

I will be running at 6;30

Pray for me.

prettybird · 04/02/2013 11:40

I might go out running this week - or might go for a cycle instead.

I haven't signed up yet, but I'll be doing the run in Glasgow at the end of July. As I know I can run 5k on pretty much no training (although my achilles tendon will thank me for doing some), I'm not yet incentives to go out! Blush

Looks outside at the driving sleet showers and trees bending in the wind and thinks it might be a good idea to leave it until the better weather comes..... Grin

I did do a 2 hour women's cycling coaching session on Saturday, with 15 minutes there and 15 minutes back. :):) Even felt quite sprightly coming back - whereas the fortnight before I was knackered and chose the "flat" route back instead of the more direct route up the hill Blush.

5madthings · 04/02/2013 11:42

I will be running this evening once mad things are in bed...

GlaikitFizzog · 04/02/2013 11:44

Morning! Well my intention was to go out today with DS in the buggy, but its sleeting and 50mph winds! So I'll do my yoga DVD instead, and go for a fast walk when DH gets home tonight!

Yesterday was a write off (is that the right write? I may still be hungover) but I have garnered support for my 5k. One of my friends gave me money, but I can't quite remember who it was or how much, so I'll need to ask around! Blush

Well done on your run BIWI! I'll send y good running vibes Blathers! I'll be out around then too!

Just need to find my trainers...........

GlaikitFizzog · 04/02/2013 11:46

I have a bike too, but I live at the top of a very big hill, so unless I just ride round and round the car park bit I think I'll need a bit more training before attempting anything on it!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 04/02/2013 11:57

I will be running later today, once I've got some work and some OU and some little hugging out of the way Smile. Although given the time I should probably have lunch first .

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/02/2013 12:36

Running later here too. Going every other day for about half an hour.

I am somewhat laughing at Fizzy on top of a big hill on her bike. Grin

CW You should do it even if you don't get a running chum, we'll cheer you on!

I have just fortified myself with a hot ribena and am away out before it rains. I may get horribly lost, since I've only lived here since Saturday Grin.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/02/2013 12:54

Shredded - I'm sure you do, but do you remember when you got lost running on holiday and had the Scissor Sisters playing on your iPod? And there were coyotes!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/02/2013 12:54

Actually, we may have made up the coyote bit
