I have to admit that it has taken me while to write this. Sometimes it feels that despite all the words at our fingertips, there are never the right ones.

This morning we learnt of the heartbreaking news that Cupofteaplease's beautiful daughter, Beatrice, had been taken from us: another bright star to light the skies above us.

If you have followed Cup's threads, you could not have failed to be touched by Bea's magic and be inspired by her mother and her family (affectionately known as The Teaset ) who ensured that for Bea, 'A life filled with love is a life worth living.'
Their dedication to Bea, their bravery and love reached many hearts and touched many lives. Bea will live long in our hearts and memories.

Our thoughts and love are with them all and we hope that this blanket may give whatever comfort it can to them.

We would be very grateful for your help. Here's how:

We need knitters, crocheters and donors.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
Whatever way youd like to be involved, please PM Pistey: it really helps us to know how many people are involved. Thanks

The wool we are using:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • Rowan Cashsoft DK.

*Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK.

*Artesano Superwash Merino DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • knitters cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Pinks, blues, greens, warm purples, silvers and cream (we'd be grateful if you use Debbie Bliss 013, if opting for cream)

If you wish to make flowers and bees and would like to use yellow, please PM Pistey as we have some in our stash and we would like to use the same colour throughout. Thanks

Ideas for squares:

Motifs:
Bees, primroses, violets, daisies and any other flowers.

Please don't feel daunted by any of the ideas as we really love plain squares and simple textures too. They look as stunning as the more complex squares and actually play a vital role in the overall effect.

Previous blankets can be seen here on the Woolly Hugs website . We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our Facebook page, you'll be updated on progress via your News Feed.

As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Just worried it's not perfect enough. It's my first attempt at knitting and want to do my best for CupofTea Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/11/2012 08:29

Vajazzler* - I've seen it too and it is absolutely lovely, super snuggly, just perfect Smile and if I remember right you learnt to knit for this, you were getting your mum to teach you especially for Cup's blanket? She would be so touched by that. How fabulously thoughtful you are, not only is your square knitted beautifully, it is full of love, compassion, and determination. Very precious indeed!

I have learnt to knit for this blanket. Cup and Bea's story have touched my heart so I wanted to contribute with a square. My mum has been very patient bless her and I'm doing another square now as I was sent 2 colours so my mum has taught me something other than basic knitGrin
Thanks

BIWI · 19/11/2012 17:08

Pictures, PurpleFrog, please!

SallyBear · 19/11/2012 23:31

Now I've posted my squares off, I feel utterly useless! I think that I may knit myself a woolly hat for the school run.

Trazzletoes · 20/11/2012 07:44

square is, erm, square so I was trying to work out how to, you know, finish it...

Darning needles?!!! What the... And they come in different sizes?! Someone please explain this to me in words of one syllable. I have a book showing me how to darn in ends, I just don't understand the needles. Tia.

KnottyLocks · 20/11/2012 07:55

Grab a darning needle that has an eye big enough to thread the yarn through.

Sew the end back into the square, wiggling it in and out along the edge.

Do not panic Grin

Morning Wine

Trazzle - I had to buy a packet last week as god alone knows what I've done with them, so if you like I can post you a needle today?

Then what she said ^^ Grin

Sally After the hat you could always make a few squares to go towards a Little Hug?

Trazzletoes · 20/11/2012 09:06

Knotty what made you think I was panicking??! Grin

Thanks Pistey but tis ok. Amazon is my friend (no time to get in to town!).

SallyBear · 20/11/2012 09:34

Ladies have any of you used these? They are brilliant and so much easier than trying to shove some wool through a darning needle

Jules146 · 20/11/2012 17:11

Sallybear I have never seen them before but look very good! I usually use a crochet hook to weave in the pesky ends! Maybe I should invest! Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/11/2012 17:37

Evening all Wine Smile

Beautiful woolly treasure arriving safely today, and it is very beautiful indeed Thanks

Thanks SallyBear Absolutely gorgeous knits in petrol blue and purple, snuggly stripes and textures, all just lovely, thank you Star

ThanksThanksThanksThanksThanksThanks

SallyBear · 20/11/2012 17:45

Phew! I'm glad to hear that they arrived Pistey! I am now contemplating whether or not to knit a little hug blanket? All this creative woolliness has inspired me Grin

Jules the knitting making up needle is inspired. I thought it was a gimmick to start with it it really does work.

I hope that everyone is home and snuggled in for the evening. Weather her has been miserable all day.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/11/2012 17:46

Go for it Sally X

Knit Knit Knit !!!!

KnottyLocks · 20/11/2012 18:01
