Following on from the terrible news of the loss of Mumof2TeenBoys' ds, a new Woolly Hugs project has been started and, as ever, MNers have stepped up to offer whatever little comfort we can to Mumof and her family. We also keep close in our thoughts Aillidh, the dd of expatinscotland, who died yesterday.

We've put together some general info mostly about knitting but with some crochet bits thrown in, which should get you started but please feel free to ask for any help - I'm not sure if the crocheters are going to set up a new support thread but their current one is found here.

Please dive in - we will inevitably end up talking bollocks rubbish at some point but all are welcome aboard.

That's nice, I was down at Lee on-the Solent the other day and the ripples were very big and pointy!

Shredded, I've added just a few instructions to the chart that might explain things whilst I'm writing up the instructions.

It's about 3/4 of a mile away and I'm the other side of The Water, but yes there's lots of grey in that square :o

Glaikit · 09/07/2012 20:24

I'm so excited! I finished my second square today. And it's magic!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/07/2012 20:29

Posted this on the other thread too, but I am all agog.
Grin

Who was in Peter Jones today looking at woolly wool?

Hmmmmm?

One of our Blanketeers is sure she spotted a fellow Mumsnetter in there today flicking between the Rowan Cashsoft and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK and concentrating on blues, greens and warm purples.....??!

PM me if you like Grin

luffly square Glaikit X

bobkate · 09/07/2012 20:40

Signing in - hello all Smile. I've started my blue square so at least I'll have one reliable one and then I'm going to try to do one that's a bit different. I love your magic square glaikit very clever Smile
redrosie I also think your squares for Matilda's blanket look good - were they tricky? and what patterns did you use? I'd like to try something similar.

Glaikit · 09/07/2012 20:55

It's this from ravelry but I'd had to add an extra bit at the top to bring it to size so I would knit the first 4 rows and last 4 rows twice so the star is in the middle next time.

tribpot · 09/07/2012 21:22

Glaikit - it is awesome, and the pattern has already been stolen for the guide! Fab work.

Just to bring down the tone after Glaikit's brilliance, on my profile are my first two squares for Mum2's blanket...

tribpot · 09/07/2012 22:01

I don't think your profile's accessible, DancesWithWools ...

Hmmmmm - Try again Trib

tribpot · 09/07/2012 22:05

Nope, when I hover over Puddlejumper's name, I can clearly click on it. With you only your name hovers in a ghostly fashion.

Morning Brew

Just catching up with PMs then off to work until lunchtime as usual. Hoping to hear of some wool arriving with our lovely crafters today.

Thinking of James and his family X

Thanks

Hi bobkate - one of those is little check stitch, one is blackberry stitch. Both are just knit/purl repeating patterns that you can follow. I write them out and do 5 bar gates so I don't get in a muddle.

Try Google, or PM me and I'll send you instructions.

Other simple options (I can only do simple) are in Trib's documentation ... One simple square that looks v nice is stocking stitch with a two knit stitch border to stop it curling.

tribpot · 10/07/2012 07:59

Minnie - if you do manage to look in to this thread now you are a budding authoress, I meant to say I think the reason you were using the 'teeth' method of intarsia is because your balls are too heavy (as the actress said to the bishop). Each little area needs its own bobbin, even the one that could just continue with the main ball of yarn. This way you can just cross them over and they should not require teeth to keep them out of the way.

Morning,

I am only donating this time due to new DD. But I was hoping to try and practice if I get chance.

I wanted to try the chinese waves pattern. Slip just means that I move the stitch onto the other needle without knitting it doesn't it?

Thanks Smile

prettybird · 10/07/2012 09:03

Yes it does. But unless it says "slip knitwise", you start as if you're going to purl the stitch and then transfer it over to the other needle. Otherwise it twists the stitch (which sometimes you want to do - but that's when the pattern will say "slip knitwise")

Try it and you'll see what I mean.

McKayz · 10/07/2012 09:13

Ok then. Thank you.

Hopefully it'll go well so I can do more than just garter or stocking stitch.

KnottyLocks · 10/07/2012 09:19

Morning , lovelies. Smile

bobkate · 10/07/2012 10:05

Thanks redrosie I'll google first and PM you if I get stuck! Smile
