Does anyone know of any English rape helplines that are for women only?
I don't want to call and risk speaking to a biological male. Thanks.

I'm so sorry you find yourself in need of this.
Email mumsnet and get your title edited to something like "Rape crisis in England - women-only services" and it will make it clearer to anyone browsing what your needs are.

Hi OP

Sorry if you are in need of support.

Rape Crisis England has just launched a new help line and (which is really stupidly hidden) they promise that all call handlers are women. (I contacted them about it as I really thought they had gone trans inclusive)

247sexualabusesupport.org.uk

It is really a shame that they haven't felt able to make this prominent because I think many looking at the web page will not be re-assured.

And please if you do ring and get a man come back and let me know and I will complain about them lying to me.

Not that that would be much comfort to you.

You could also look at the directory of rape crisis support and see if there is something local to you rapecrisis.org.uk/find-a-centre/ and each have their own entry so should I hope make clear if they are women only.

This is such a terrible situation that a woman needing help cant be sure they have be able to talk to a woman.

Also this is the first time EVER that government has funded a national support line for victims of rape. Up until now South London Rape Crisis ran a national helpline funded by a trust.

Its a disgrace.

Best wishes and hope one of these contacts will be positive.

I think you've had a name change fail OP. In any event, as we know, 'women' could still mean biological men.

IwantToRetire · 24/01/2023 17:58

That's good to know. Just wish it wasn't hidden away.

Maybe you could think about making first contact through online chat, and if that goes okay then try phoning.

But obviously when you feel ready.

Rape Crisis Englan operate under the EA Single Sex Exemptions. It is only Scotland where are so called "women's" group have included men as women.

So unless you have got evidence that other rape crisis centres in the UK have done that your comment is not at all helpful when someone is asking for support.

Do you know of any rape crisis centre apart from the one in Edinburgh that advertises services for women, has men answering helpline calls.

That sort of clever clever remark might be okay on a thread where we are all having a general moan about how far women's rights have been undermined, but really inappropriate in this context.

Ginger1982 · 24/01/2023 18:22

Jesus, calm down. It wasn't meant as a 'clever clever remark' whatever that means.

Apologies if I've offended you OP.

Hi OP, I’m so sorry to hear that you need this support. I hope you find the helpline beneficial. I know that Nia in north London used to have a helpline and that I’m 100% sure will not be staffed by anyone who isn’t biologically female.
