Norway calls puberty blockers experimental

It appears that the Norwegian Healthcare Investigation Board has stated that puberty blockers etc. are experimental and not evidence based.

Finally the right questions are being asked about the appropriateness of irreversible treatments on children and the evidence to support them.

In the UK Cass questioned challenge the lack of evidence. In Sweden the Karolinska Institute stopped using puberty blockers. Now Norway is reviewing their use.

It's interesting that increased scientific scrutiny and rigour increasingly seem to lead to the same outcome.

Thank you Chaz, good to see another country looking again at pbs.

Very positive news, especially for Norwegian children and their parents.

It's interesting that increased scientific scrutiny and rigour increasingly seem to lead to the same outcome.

Isn't it just? As if the affirmation model is not based on evidence or science at all.

There's another thread on this here:

Great news.

Particularly good news in We-Will-Prosecute-You-If-You-State-Biological-Reality Norway.

I wonder when they'll start claiming that gender is special and can't be held to the usual rules of scientific investigation and proof?

Quite soon I think.

What I find interesting as well is that Norway, Sweden and the U.K. are some of the most socially liberal countries in the world. Perhaps rushing to sterilise children rather than talking to them isn’t the liberal approach after all.https://www.kcl.ac.uk/policy-institute/assets/social-attitudes-in-the-uk-and-beyond-pub01-116.pdf

OMG I missed this. This is so amazing! Norway has been completely captured and finally some sense

Happy days!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 12/03/2023 14:59

That is very good news.

MrGHardy · 12/03/2023 17:03

Well that makes it all out of Sweden, Finland, and Norway.

rioseco · 12/03/2023 17:13

Made my day! So many chinks and pushbacks.

Oblomov23 · 12/03/2023 17:44

Good. Hopefully other countries will follow suit.

Rainbowshit · 12/03/2023 17:50

This is great news.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/03/2023 18:38

It made me think of the Keira Bell case when it was clear that GIDS had collected little or no meaningful evidence. How can you engage in a treatment protocol for children without monitoring if it actually works.

rather than cherry-picking studies

Too right!

The SNP likes to think of Scotland as a Scandinavian style country...
