I'd like to introduce my 15-year-old sister to feminism. She recently asked me to make her a playlist, so I thought this would be a good place to start?

I've come up with Video by India.Arie. I was also thinking of Defying Gravity from Wicked. Do you have any more suggestions?

Oh, and practically anything by Peaches, Angie Reed and loads of older stuff if you are interested in those?

One Girl Revolution

I have loads of music, and pathetically little of it could be described as feminist.

Oh, I love Bessie Smith's Gimme a Pigfoot and a Bottle of Beer, not straight feminism but defending a woman's right to go out, eat junk and have a good time.

One Girl Revolution

Ms Dynamite - It Takes More

And perhaps too obvious but Destiny's Child Independent Women Pt 1

Oh my god how could I forget - i heard this on the radio recently and realised for the first time what a great song it is: Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves - Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/07/2010 01:34

just watched that video and it sent a shiver down my spine. Annie & Aretha are just so cool and they're standing there in front of pictures of suffragettes and civil rights workers and all kinds of women doing their thing...

Also deserve kudos for the line "look, there's a woman right next to you!"

Completely forgot to mention this one: by the Dixie Chicks - I know it's wrong to promote killing etc but often find myself humming this when reading about another abusive arse on the Relationships section.
