Do we need a Stephen Lawrence-type enquiry into sexism in the police?

Following this report from the IPCC, it looks like there are institutional failings in the way that the Met, at least, are dealing with women who report sexual assaults. Laughing at them, ignoring them, failing to follow up witness statements and not bothering to gather evidence... Sounds like a problem to me. What do you think?

I completely agree that there needs to be a huge enquiry into this and for the findings to be properly implemented.

Yes, I definitely think so, because anything that has been shown to be the case in the Met is almost certainly going to be the case in many if not all other areas.

Yes.

How do we make it happen?

  1. how was it decided that the Stephen Lawrence enquiry should take place? Who makes the decision?
  1. Politically I can't see Theresa May being that bothered but HH and the Labour party may be our friends here.
The Early Day Motion on the rape anonymity thing will give us a good idea which MPs are likely to be sympathetic.

Not sure, SSM, we need some lawyers over here. Judging by the tone of the report the IPCC would be a good place to start maybe? Contacting the woman (Anna?) who forfeited her anonymity to talk about being attacked by Kirk Reid would be good too. Who's in?
