Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women’s pub. The sign on the door says CELEBRATION, in glitter, and the gerbils have been told they may use as much glitter as they like.

The champagne is flowing, and it is the good kind. Every bubble is perfectly fizzy, every glass is bottomless, and nobody wakes up with a headache or a vague memory of singing to a coat rack. You may toast as many times as you wish and remain entirely clear-headed, sharp-witted and ready to explain your point again, louder, with hand gestures.

The gerbil crew has gone all out. There are bunting-laden tunnels, a tiny brass band that knows many tunes and play them with total conviction, and a head gerbil in a waistcoat who will announce your achievement to the whole room if you hand over a sunflower seed. Several gerbils have been practising a synchronised pouring routine. Two of them have already collided with the canapés, and the canapés are fine.

Whatever you are celebrating, a win, a finish, a survived meeting, a Tuesday, pull up a stool and raise a glass. The corks are popping, the confetti is mostly staying in the building, and everyone here is on your side.

Any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road, where they are invited to cheer from a respectful distance.

Cheers, everyone. The next round is on the gerbils.

This was updated 24 minutes ago and I think says the guidance for patients was published today? It was mentioned on the hourly news update so seems like it’s out?

I expect there will be more on PM and 6 o’clock news
Trans people should use hospital spaces according to biological sex, NHS England says https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cry83dyddv6no

There are three separate docs, all neatly buried within each other and published in different online locations. Deliberate? Surely not. 🙄

I have read through all three and can't for the life of me figure out why it took 18 months to publish these.

Some clearly activist-driven language still.

I foresee more tribunal action, I'm afraid.

AngleofRepose · 15/10/2026 17:47

Ignore me, I'm being an irritated old grump.

@MyrtleLion thank you for the next chapter and have a wonder meal!

AngleofRepose · 15/10/2026 17:59

Well, clearly that should have said "wonderful." <sigh>

I need another drink ...

MarieDeGournay · 15/10/2026 18:10

Has Gantry escaped from the hard hat yet??😄
A very good episode thank you Myrtle, there's a hint of come-uppance in the air at last..

Have a love celebratory meal by the river, you deserve it!

Angle, you've been given your own personal bargerbil with an unlimited supply of Oban for the evening, since you are feeling grumpyFlowers

Welcome, Moist, I didn't notice your arrival, I think you started talking about soup straight away rather than flinging open the door of the Bluey and saying 'Dahlings! Here I am, you lucky lucky people' so I didn't notice, very sorry😄

It looks like you've got the hang of the place already, I hope the bargerbils are taking good care of your every whim.

Enjoy the tapas, Hedgey - que aproveche!
damn, not only can I not do bigly letters, I can't do upside-downy Spanish exclamation marks either🙁

Boiledbeetle · 15/10/2026 18:17

OK, which gerbil in the kitchen did I piss off?
Two hours since I ordered and still no food!

And before anyone says, "Staunch Ally," they told me it's some sort of cross-dressing thing. I'm not sure they fully understand men's fashions, but there we are.

JanesLittleGirl · 15/10/2026 18:46

She turned towards the scaffold, but Fenella had disappeared.

Colour me shocked.

I think the frock coats are very fetching, but they could have considered wearing some bottoms, though.

(for style reasons, I'm not judging)

Have a lovely celebratory meal, Myrtle & her Walrus.

I didn’t realise the gerbils and also fish had been practising aqua dancing (synchro) in preparation for your celebrations, Myrtle. It shows how joyous we all are at your news.

It was very kind of you to include gerbils at your table. Are the chips on the left for me?

I’m pretty sure they’re otters not gerbils, and I wouldn’t turn my back on them with salmon and mussels on the table.

We visited WWT Martin Mere yesterday, they have a couple of Asian short-clawed otters. One of them had just found a mussel, which he (I think) took into the water to give it a good wash before eating it.

PrancingPanda · 15/10/2026 20:52

Boily I think you'll struggle with that steak!
I'll have some of those chips though, with salt and pepper and a HugoSpritz, so I can raise a toast to Myrtle and her Walrus (lovely whiskers, Mr W) and the new Nhs guidelines

V v tired from house renovations. Never ending .....🐼
Righto- off to Sporner Corner 😆

MyrtleLion · 15/10/2026 21:12

Dinner was lovely and we are now home, drinking crémant as a celebration before watching Taskmaster.

I must send off the blanket for the Woolly Hugs auction tomorrow and other postage and printing things. It is frustrating not to have a printer any more, so I have to go to the library or the printers. How do people manage?

Then the Walrus has a dressing change at the GP tomorrow at 1645 before we drive to our weekend away.

For the sporners, I’m about to post a picture of his dressing on my sporner thread. Not as bad as this morning, so don’t get too excited.
