Oxfordshire school girls in petition to ban school uniforms in porn

The girls, who are all part of the Little Feminist Bookclub (LFB) of the Cooper School, are calling on prime minister Andy Burnham to institute a ban of school uniform in pornography.

The petition was launched by the Bicester pupils earlier this week and - as of Friday, September 25 - has over 900 signatures.

The group cites Professor Clare McGlynn at Durham University, a leading campaigner on reform of porn laws, who said this form of pornographic content is "ruining" the lives of young teenage girls every day.

Well done these girls but it's appalling that these young girls have to point out such an obvious fact.

Would be more successful to get rid of school uniform, which would be great.

Speculation, but school uniform itself is more of a thing in the UK than anywhere else, I think, so it seems reasonable to suspect that most of the pornographers using it will also be based in the UK, and aiming at UK customers. Doubt it'll go anywhere, but worth encouraging, I think.

I think you will find many countries still have school uniform. Japan for instance where the sexualisation of young girls via a whole cartoon industry that fetishises young girls. Isn't if the origin of anime?

Perhaps they were influenced by the recent banning of choking porn into thinking that any given type of porn could hypothetically be banned.

Even if we got rid of school uniforms, pornographers would still peddle this genre unless they’re forced not to.

Child sex abuse porn is illegal in the U.K.

So sure, porn in which ‘schoolgirls’ are portrayed surely could be.

No it wouldn’t! Imagine the drama of teenage girls getting ready every morning.

I had an interesting conversation with my daughter about it after her German exchange. She observed that the Germans didn’t need a uniform since they all wore a very similar combination of smart jeans and a shirt/blouse or smart sweater, subtle makeup and jewellery. No one wore any kind of more interesting clothes style or statement makeup.

She said in the U.K. if there was no uniform you’d have all the subgroups - emos, chavs etc, every type of hair cut and colour and goth makeup etc. So you need a uniform to keep it vaguely smart and lessen the differences between people.

I thought that was a very perceptive observation.

The girls uniform at our local secondary school is trousers, not skirts. Job done.

Realistically though, how would the ban work? Because no actual real school uniforms are used in porn, just the suggestion of them through ties/ white shirts/ tartan or grey/ black skirts which in themselves are legitimate adult clothes and work wear.

I kind of agree with the proposal in principle but don't know how you'd write it in a clear legal way to define where the line is, because you know the production companies will go right to the line regardless.

I applaud their initiative but I don't think it is actually possible to ban. I live in a country where there are no school uniforms and yes, some teenagers spend hours getting ready but I would say the majority wear a "uniform" of jeans and sweatshirt and roll out of bed just before class!

School uniforms are one of many reasons I will NOT send my daughter to abusive British schools. I’m not having her in a short skirt and fetishized outfit walking past kebab shop pervert predators. No way. Home schooling it is.

Will this affect Quentin Tarantino movies like Kill Bill? He has a thing for hiring young actresses and having them dress as Japanese school girls for the camera.

Is this intended as some kind of satire post? The actual school uniforms are not short skirts- most schools are pretty militant about measuring to ensure they reach a girls knees- or have trouser alternatives. Schools also aren't abusive, beyond a few draconian rules about when pupils can use the loos.

Meaning you dont mind white men on building sites leering at you daughter and shouting sexually explicit comments at her.

Or the male drivers tooting at her.
