Ireland: Belong To & Cass Review

I looked up the Belong To website so see what they said about the Cass Review. They state in April 2024 that

Belong To will conduct an analysis of the Cass Review to better inform our understanding of care for trans young people.

Have they done that yet? Their statement about Cass is highly misleading.
And many more schools are signing up to the BelongTo Quality Mark.

Would be good if there was some media questioning of all of this in light of the breastfeeding madness that has made it into the news. You go down this path and have this in schools and this is where you get to... (Norway, Iceland, strange man at breastfeeding conference)

People in Ireland need to pipe up about this. I can't believe my kids are surrounded by this dangerous propaganda.

At Irish prices?!

The world has gone a bit mad and the unpredictable and wild prices in Ireland just add to the head-spinning and eye-rolling!

I think when writing emails to people about gender identity ideology and related topics you don't know exactly what is going to strike a nerve or help people to either see that this is important or that they've been thinking about this from the wrong angle. I think it is worth doing though because I have heard back from people I thought would be very hard to persuade who seem to have given some ground.

There are lots of different approaches that are possible to take. I've written a couple of emails about the proposed Conversion Therapy Bill. One to Norma Foley and one to Emer Currie. I might follow those up with additional emails with a link to the episode from Sex Matters on the Conversion Practises Bill with Matilda Gosling.

Keep tapping away...

As part of withdrawing children from SPHE I have to come up with a coherent, not-too-mad-sounding position for why I think they'd be better off out of the class. This is harder than you'd think.

Has anyone else ever tried to do this?
The mix up of gender discussions with gender-identity ideology is one area that I can point to.

This is on the Oide - Primary - Wellbeing - Bí Cineálta - Resources.
Identity-Based Bullying or All Together Now or Gender Equality Matters. These links all have gender ideology.

It is not one document or one section of the SPHE programme. It is more ingrained than that. I can imagine the conversation feeling like I'm making a fuss about nothing and perhaps I am because all the teachers look a this stuff and think, oh I'll just ignore that, but maybe they won't? How can you tell?

These are all current primary curriculum links.

Very good points @FanOfGailDines and @MarieDeGournay

The point about online lack of safeguarding is very well made and yes, that is a huge issue. It's worth noting that online, the culture the country we are brought up in is much less relevant as it's all international online.

What I struggle to get my head around most in an Irish context is the difference between the NGO class/political classes and everybody else on this issue.

Yet, the politicians and the NGOs also have grannies and aunts and cousins and so on who will be telling them to cop themselves on. Or do they differentiate between what they say in work versus at home/social setting?

I think there are very few politicians who are actively supportive of gender ideology in education or letting men be in women's spaces but they haven't got the confidence or understanding or gumption to question it.

As for the families who should be saying cop on I think people just like to be proud of their relative who is doing well and they want to hold up that status and don't want to rock the boat. Because that is a family boat. Your politician relative pipes up about something controversial and you are going to experience the kick back too. Very few people like to swim against the waters, if that's an expression? Swim against the tide.

Scroll down for video to inform teachers of SPHE Junior Cycle on the experiences of LGBTQI+ Students from Aoife Neary.

My main thought was that the absence of comment from or about LGB students was striking. Focus principally on Trans.

Wow, it turns out that there are a lot more links to gender identity ideology in Primary.

Have a look at the YouTube video entitled, 'Helen McEntee's White Truths and Rainbow Lies' for a step-by-step guide through Bí Cineálta (Be Kind, Anti-Bullying) done by a parent called Dr. Niamh Regan who also has an x account under Niamh Lanes.

It's very helpful because there are so many little links. She's also been interviewed by Stella O'Malley. Useful for any parents in Ireland with children at National School.
