A sex offender exploited a legal loophole to change his name as many as 20 times to hide his convictions.
Jason Brown, a 50-year-old convicted sex offender described as “a danger to women and children”, adopted several aliases to mask his criminality as he formed new relationships with unsuspecting partners.
The former fireman was said to have travelled around the country where he befriended women and children before adopting a new alias once he was caught.
The disclosure has prompted fresh demands for the Government to change the law as hundreds of sex offenders are set to be freed from jail from October under <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/o/AFe7D/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/08/15/paedophiles-avoid-jail-under-labours-sentencing-law-change/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Labour’s early release scheme.
They are calling on ministers to close a loophole so that the onus is no longer solely on offenders to tell police when they have changed their names.
Emily Konstantas, founder of the Safeguarding Alliance, told the Daily Mail the case illustrated the ease with which offenders were able to change their identities to fool the public.
