Live reporting, focusing on women's lives under the Taliban.

Good to see this focus.

Afghan women speak to BBC after five years of Taliban rule

Since seizing power in 2021, the ultra-conservative rulers have severely restricted the freedoms of women and girls.

And the ones able to communicate with the BBC will be the 'lucky' ones - not those under the tightest restrictions.

I just came on to post this article.

Incidentally, I am astonished (and disappointed) at the YouTube videos that come up in my recommendations, with western vloggers (male, of course), who film themselves in the streets with lots of Afghan men and come away saying it's a wonderful country. Occasionally one gets scared off, perhaps by the police getting wind of their filming.

But just imagine trying that as a woman. I did find this one, which is interesting "The FORBIDDEN Life Of Women In Afghanistan In 2026. I Was SHOCKED!" (The headline is somewhat misleading as she is not really that naive).

It’s worth seeing the 2001 C4 documentary “Beneath the Veil” (just before Sept 11) where a female journalist went undercover in Taliban Afghanistan.

Foreigners and locals pose together for a photo in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Should Western influencers promote Taliban‑run Afghanistan?

In the race for clicks, likes and followers, some travel content creators are being criticized for promoting Afghanistan while ignoring the harsh reality of Taliban rule.
