A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK says Amnesty who claim over 50% are Gender Critical groups

Quote:

Anti-rights actors seek a society in which women and men have fixed and distinct roles, based on what they view as ‘natural’ and ‘traditional’. These actors perceive the idea that gender is socially constructed as a threat because it suggests that gender roles can, and do, change across societies and over time. In fact, progress in the rights of women and LGBT+ people has been underpinned by changing understandings of gender and social roles.

Anti-rights actors refer to this perceived threat as ‘gender ideology’, portraying it as an attack on national traditions, family structures, marriage and religious freedom. These narratives often seek to generate fear and uncertainty and rely on misinformation or exaggerated claims.

The term ‘gender ideology’ emerged in the context of debates within international institutions, particularly the United Nations, about gender equality and sexual and reproductive rights.

In 1964, the Holy See became a Permanent Observer at the UN General Assembly, the only religious body with this status. As a permanent observer the Holy See can participate in processes at the General Assembly as well as other UN bodies. It cannot vote but it has the possibility to co-sponsor resolutions if a member state requests a vote. Although it cannot vote, the Holy See can participate in UN discussions and processes and has played an influential role in debates on women's rights and LGBT+ rights.

The term ‘gender ideology’ gained prominence in response to progress on gender equality and Cairo in 1994. These conference were a landmark moment for the global women's rights movement. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action is widely regarded as a key international framework for advancing women's rights and gender equality, and states continue to report on its implementation through the Commission on the Status of Women.

While opposition to sexual and reproductive rights predates the Beijing conference, the term ‘gender ideology’ became a particularly important response to the advances achieved there. The phrase was coined to explain the growing influence of gender equality agendas and to mobilise opposition to them.

Although the term originated in debates at the international level, it has since become a broad political narrative used by a wide range of anti-rights actors. Today, it is often used to connect campaigns against gender equality, sexual and reproductive rights, and LGBT+ rights across different countries and contexts.

I believe they have a duty to report if they break the rules.

I doubt there are any rules about libel & it won't be regarding libel that they are referring themselves to the Charity Commission. The rules that are likely to have been broken will be regarding political campaigning.

Campaigning beyond their charity objectives, perhaps. But I was thinking of the rules I believe the Charity Commission has against one charity impugning another.

I thought it was something about "any incident likely to have a significant impact on the reputation of" the charity, or something similar.

So Labour Women's Declaration is now offically "right wing"??
Ditto "Virago Women's Workshop" and the "Gay Men's Network":
It's also, apparently, right wing now to think that "Women are not sex objects" - well that figures alright. 🙄

"So Labour Women's Declaration is now offically "right wing"??"

No, but the interpretation - and execution of that interpretation - is.

Another banger article.

Amnesty irrational
Gender identity ideologues cannot get away with baseless smears any more

Victoria Smith

You have to feel sorry for Chiara Capraro, Gender Justice Director at Amnesty International UK and author of its ill-fated report, “A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK”. How could she have known this would be the point at which a well-worn tactic — indeed, the only tactic available to gender identity ideologues — would cease to work? After more than a decade of being able to distort what your opponents believe, smear them as hate-filled bigots and claim the moral high ground for doing so, why would you expect it to end? I’m not saying it’s a justification, but if Capraro says “everyone else was at it” — a kind of woke careerism version of the Lance Amstrong excuse for doping — well, she’d be right. It’s not as though a Gender Justice Director has any other arguments up her sleeve.

Never had an archive site ask for a QR code scan before.

QR codes a pet aversion of mine. I just don't do them. Quite apart from the fact that i can seldom get them to work properly on my phone, despite downloading an app to do it (the camera doesn't hack it, whatever they say), I dislike the principle. Visiting a link with an internet address is totally different to scanning a QR code and opening up your mobe to God knows what.

When was the letter from lawyers representing Beira's Place sent? I believe they have given Amnesty 2 weeks to respond.

The teaching pack that Audrey Suffolk refers to below is enlightening on how Amnesty are in such a mess.

https://x.com/AudreySuffolk/status/2078438443873337623

"That is a terrible summary of the Equality Act. Just one example: Unlawful Discrimination is not just 1. Having a PC and 2. Something harming you. There needs ( in most cases) treatment needs to be worse than comparator. This is why one needs to focus on the Act itself

https://media.amnesty.org.uk/documents/LGBTQI2B20teaching20resource20FINAL.pdf

The pack claims that:

"The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people with different characteristics from
discrimination in the workplace and education, and in wider society.
Discrimination happens when a person takes any actions that harm those they are prejudiced against. Prejudice describes ingrained thoughts and feelings towards others." [my bold].

They seem to be confusing discrimination with something else - maybe harassment?

There is no requirement to show that unlawful discrimination is deliberate or that there is a particular motive.

However, using their definition, if they wanted to argue that a lack of unisex provision excludes trans people, they would need to show that those providing the services had ingrained prejudice against trans people. This error should be obvious to anyone with the smallest understanding of the rights framework, but apparently not Amnesty.

They are also a source of scamming. Never scan one you don't fully trust and trust the source of.

Tribunal Tweets collated all the letters, plus press reports on their website. Beira's lawyers letter was on the Monday or Tuesday iirc

While I was looking, in the wrong place, I came across Amnesty's attack on the EHRC, for not bowing at the TRA altar, trying to get their international status downgraded Amnesty attacked EHRC in 2025. Some prominent names allied with them.

Chiara Capraro again.

It's fascinating that she has achieved such professional success within her field while seemingly lacking the faintest understanding of human rights law. I'd love to know how she does it, but wouldn't want her arguing my case.

This Chiara sounds like the most determined believer of gender ideology. I do genuinely wonder what goes on in the heads of these women who pander to men so completely. To the detriment of their own rights and which ultimately betrays all women.

Thing is, I don't think they are pandering to men, because I think they genuinely believe that TWAW. To them, this is just the next step in the march for equality: after LGB, comes the T. It's their time to shine, to be on the RSOH. And yeah, sure, there are a few problems, but they'll smooth themselves out in time. After all, if they are doing The Right Thing, then there can't be bad consequences, obviously.

I don't think they really believe that TWAW. They see exactly what the rest of us see. But they think that they should believe that TWAW.

It's like a madder version of the Emperor's New Clothes. Instead of telling everyone that they're very stupid if they can't see the emperor's fine new outfit the tailors have convinced everyone that they're transphobic and anti-rights if they can't see he's really a woman. So when the little boy says "but Mummy I can see his willy" and starts laughing his Mum will just slap him round the head for transphobia.

If you click on the 'eye' symbol, underneath the QR code, the original google photo-match captchas should show up as an alternative option to the new QR code. I agree with you, I loathe QR codes and there's no way I'm downloading a specific app to deal with captchas.

I wonder what would happen if people like Chiara actually had to sit down and debate their position, rather than just throwing out smears and running away. I would love to hear her argue her position, using evidence, with some like Maya Forstater. It will never happen.

Would you say that all religious people only think that they should believe that God exists? Some of them, sure, but a whole lot do actually believe that God exists.

It's the same with TRAs: some think that's what they should believe, yes, but some actually believe it. In that environment, the fact that transwomen are women is just that: a basic fact of life, as sure and obvious as the Sun rising every morning.

And just like religious people will twist everything around their faith, so do faithful TRAs twist everything around that one article of faith. That's how you end up with female penises, for example: because "TWAW" is more true, more factual, than "only men have penises".

Don't underestimate the power of faith and brainwashing.

Religion is a slightly different thing. It's easy enough to believe God exists because it's not really provable either way and most gods can be inconsistent or just plain invisible.

Whereas believing that TWAW requires positively not believing in the concrete evidence of your own eyes and ears, at least some of the time.

Don't underestimate the power of faith and brainwashing.

I hope I don't. Faith and brainwashing are not just internal individual processes. They are social. The boundary between actual belief and what we think we ought to believe is ... porous.
