This came up on my MSN feed, and then vanished. It's from the Express where I managed to retrieve it.

It seem the lovely Rose has lodged a grievance against the nurses, despite their winning, and the Express is surprises.

Thanks Impossible. Hopefully their legal costs will be significant to demonstrate to others in the NHS that FAFO is no way to run a safe health Service.

Igmum · 31/08/2026 17:20

Thanks impossible and good luck Darlington nurses. Hit ‘em where it hurst.

1984Now · 31/08/2026 17:25

I can't believe I'm writing this, but the fact the Trust even now when they've lost and received criticism from the judge, are still not mending bridges but being as antagonistic as possible, means the NHS is the enemy.
Yes, the NHS, our preeminent national institution, is the enemy, not just of women, but their own female staff, is the enemy.
That's now the reality, the NHS will.look past the rights and comfort of women.

mateysmum · Yesterday 13:38

Wow! just Wow! When you read how persistent, diligent and just downright correct Stephen Twist was and yet the NHS sailed blithely on in a complete state of denial, convinced they were on the right side of history.
Good on you Stephen. If only there were more like you out there.

CassOle · Yesterday 13:51

It is staggering to read it.

GailBlancheViola · Yesterday 14:15

Ooof, that is damning.

MrsOvertonsWindow · Yesterday 14:23

That's powerful and completely damning isn't it? And shows yet again the power of this ideology to undermine organisations. Also raises questions about the capture of numerous legal firms that seemingly lead them to offer incorrect advice to their clients.

Wishesandhorses · Yesterday 14:29

He also questioned whether the Trust was prioritising a policy objective over the emotional cost to the nurses.

Let's be honest, it was not a 'policy objective', it was a determined, partisan political agenda being inflicted on employees without regard for their consent, needs, emotions or anything else. And without regard for duty of impartiality and inclusion and accessibility as those last two words are not solely about men who crossdress, whatever certain political groups would have you believe.

They were determined to enforce male access to non consenting women in a state of undress and to overturn any right of women to privacy, dignity or consent. It is that plain and that ugly.

And much of the money has been spent in attempt to punish and frighten women into just submissively getting their clothes off for such men, or creeping quietly away into hidden places to be able to do the necessary changing for their jobs. It's been about making sure as far as possible that other women are too afraid to resist.

I hope this trust is taken to the bloody cleaners, enough to scare the living crap out of every other trust. Much as I bitterly resent the waste of very badly needed money and the harm this prolonged gallop on a wicked and misogynist hobby horse will have done to the services to patients. And absolutely bloody yes to all public funded bodies, all of them, having to justify to the last decimal place the use of their funding on legal costs for vanity/political colonial and savage bullying cases like this one before being permitted to do it.

I resent it, but there's an argument we won't see real change until offending Trusts are more pubblicly hit in the pocket.

CassOle · Yesterday 15:29

It just shows that in this ideology the wants of one man were worth more than the privacy and dignity of many women (don't forget that there were other women who were worried about their visas being withdrawn, so they didn't pursue complaints) and £1.25 million (which could have been spent on helping patients).

One bloke.

Entirely.

It also needs to move on past the grand superiority of 'we can fight our batshit indefinitely if we want, because it's not our money at stake. There's no consequences to us, there's a bottomless pit of resources, and taxpayers/govt/insurers will just keep coughing up indefinitely'.

There needs to be limits and consequences. This is not what they are funded for. Likewise the current fashion for the powerful and well funded Goliaths to intentionally set out to bankrupt the Davids out of being able to afford justice. Even on bloody obvious existing laws.

GailBlancheViola · Yesterday 17:24

I couldn't agree with you more Wishesandhorses.

The individuals in power who agreed to/signed off on this should not only be hit in their pockets for their criminal waste of public funds but should be sacked and never allowed to work in the Public Sector again.

@tweetdodger

Wow, @CDDFTNHS brushed aside the advice of an expert barrister who specialises in arbitration, mediation and governance. They were so determined to punish the Darlington nurses, so willing to waste any sum of public funds.
@YvetteCooperMP needs to intervene here.

yowser

I simply cannot understand what happened here?

did they think they would win? or did they not care and was it about being 'right'?

Kirschcherries · Today 11:32

@AimsAndObjectives Thank you for the link.

All I can say is if the Board didn’t listen to a colleague who is a Barrister how does anyone expect them to listen to the nurses.

Shedmistress · Today 11:35

'Where are all the feminists, why didn't they mention anything at the time?' they ask, baffled that there is anything wrong with a man and his ripped yfronts asking women when they are going to be getting undressed...'It is all such a mystery as to why the women are upset'.
