Link to BBC Wales news today.

Had to Google search for what operating equipment beneath clothing without consent actually meant. Up skirting. Another alleged sexual predator within our police service. It's not even surprising anymore but it fucking makes me angry and sick of the relentless stream of abusive, predatory men. 🤬

Det Con Lee Harshey-Jones. He looks at the camera with a neutral expression, and wears a white shirt, black suit jacket and bronze tie. He has short grey hair and short stubble.

North Wales Police detective charged with operating equipment under clothing

Det Con Lee Harshey-Jones has been suspended from duties following an "incident" earlier this month.

Revolting man. I hope he gets the book thrown at him. So to speak.

Women have literally nowhere safe to go. We can’t even trust the police.

All we have is each other.

Made me well up a bit, that did.

The detective was a lead investigator in the death of two-year-old Ethan Ives-Griffiths, whose grandparents were jailed for murder last year, and has given evidence in other high-profile murder trials in north Wales.

You'd think he'd be one of the good guys. Blew up his career for a tawdry thrill.

There is so much easy access pornography that I cannot fathom the need to get more pics. I can only conclude that it is the thrill of getting pics of unconsenting women/girls. That it is about power, control and getting one over on some woman. It is this aspect that I find terrifying. He has likely planned how to indulge his voyeuristic kink and then got a sexual thrill from invading their right to privacy and dignity.

He's an educated, professional and privileged man who is aware of the crime he's committing and the penalties if caught. He should be able to know the impact on his victims should they find out. Yet he still chose to pursue his prey and to hell with the consequences. It is so frightening.

And this is what the police need training about, not bloody rainbows and critical race theory. Just basic, don't be sexist racist pricks.

Yes, he hates women. It's that simple. And also that shocking - the deep contempt and hatred that some men have for women. And it's baked into our society - patriarchy.

I wonder if he was uploading the photos to some misogynistic website and getting the attaboys from the only people that really mattered to him, other men.

TempestTost · 23/06/2026 23:13

I think it's the act of transgression that's the draw for a lot of these guys

Umm. Critical race theory is a way of understanding and discussing race and ethnicity so that racism can be combatted.

But, in effect, merely perpetuates divisons and stereotypes based on race - by emphasising race as the primary factor in everything. Everything comes to be viewed through that lens.

Yes, and the addiction demands ever stronger doses and hits. Once it breaks out into the open, and is no longer just hidden away in front of his computer, or in his own imagination, it can escalate rapidly.

The police officer involved in the murder of Sarah Everard worked his way up to what he did. He started off exposing himself at drive thru take-aways. Liked the feeling of shock he induced and the thrill of the power he had.

SidewaysOtter · 24/06/2026 11:34

What IS it with these men that would throw away everything for the cheap thrill of transgressing a woman's boundaries?

And what IS it with these sorts of pictures? See also: the H&M changing room man (who I see has now been arrested).

With Police Officers, medics, teachers, particularly of high rank, whose jobs put them in daily contact with vulnerable people. Who stand to lose everything if they're caught but do it anyway. It seems their libido is their ruling drive and I have to wonder if that controlled their choice of career. The money, status, the good things they do are just side quests, stuff they do to enable their real passion. Who can more unconsenting than a child, an anaesthetised woman, a corpse? With these guys it's their literal day job. Find a job you love and never work a day in your life.

I like to think it's not all men, or even most. What other choice do I have?

Acknowledging that there are divisions and discussing them, such as the worse maternal death rates in black women highlighted today (again), only perpetuates those divisions if we do nothing about addressing them.

Which is an us problem not a CRT problem.

I think (hope) we hear about criminal behaviour because it is in "man bites dog" territory. Same as why we hear about most plane crashes but very few car crashes.

Things that happen fairly often tend not to make the news. I'm hopeful that almost all other police officers never do what he did (not naive enough to think he's alone) but I don't expect to ever read about the vast majority not doing so.

And yet racism and intolerance has gotten so much worse since crt and DEI became a thing.

But you were talking about how necessary CRT was? Not everything that differently effects people is down to either racism, or sexism. But that is how such theories tend to posit everything.

didgerreedoo · 24/06/2026 13:59

I was once someone of interest to someone quite high up in the police via social media. An extremely fit, good looking guy, also very highly trained in martial arts. He was openly targeting loads of women I think and also openly married although this broke down during the time I knew him. I chatted to him a couple of times and it was clear what he was doing. Of course stayed well away. I don't believe he was a risk to women but I don't know for sure as I had never met him.

Much later I came across some news footage of him tackling someone that could have caused enormous problems for the general public i.e. basically disarming them at huge risk to his own personal safety as well.

So I am interested to know what you think about him. Personally I think many of the issues arise from accessibility to porn, the media in general and just huge societal problems, disconnection from self, each other, nature etc. A much bigger picture than just these individual men and much more nuanced.

InconvenientlyMaterial · 24/06/2026 14:10

Just read that the police will have access to drones across London now. How are they going to stop the abusive ones using that to spy on women at home?

CRT (I can both see it's merits and what people such as Trevor Phillips have against it btw) would say that racism is embedded in our society, rather than there just being some racist people.

Would you not say the same about misogyny? I would. Whilst I don't believe ACA truly B, I do believe misogyny is systemic within their organisation, as well as society as a whole.
