'Sexual crimes recorded by Police Scotland increased by 10% last year and are now at their highest level since 1971, official figures show, external.
The total number of sexual crimes, which include rape and attempted rape, sexual assault and communicating indecently, rose from 14,892 to 16,430. There was also a 23% increase in offences under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act, which rose from 2,573 to 3,170 in 2025-26.
Rape Crisis Scotland said many survivors of sexual crimes choose not to report, so the true number will likely be even higher.'

"Violence against women is reaching crisis point as sexual violence and domestic rise again. More must be done to protect women and girls and to make our communities safe."

Single sex spaces, designed well, are an obvious start.

I think that was Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre.

Would be interested to know what the conviction rates are like and if they have changed at all.

Its all very well recording the crime but if nothing is done about the criminals afterwards then its an invitation for them to reoffend and others to offend without concern of consequences.

But Rape Crisis Scotland were fully behind having transwomen in rape crisis centres, and that's putting it politely. And the Scottish Government would only fund transwomen-inclusive rape crisis centres. I don't know whether that's changed or is still the case.

ArabellaScott · 24/06/2026 06:23

As far as Im aware funding for rape crisis centres is at crisis point and under threat. They seem at perpetual risk of closing.

There were issues with services offering to 'all genders ' - not necessarily about trans, councils were stipulating services for men were offered too.

There should be help for men and boys affected, of course, but the numbers affected are substantially lower and existing services often aren't or weren't set up for males, so couldn't magic up services out of nowhere. That funding condition put womens services at risk.

How many Rape Crisis Centres, for both sexes, could have been funded by all the millions the SNP have wasted on court cases where they've tried to strip women of their rights?
It really is infuriating, they've pushed the GI stupidity in school to nobody's benefit, and yet have totally failed to come up with a comprehensive sex and relationship education where boys could learnt that girls are not just there to service their sexual needs. 🤬

ArabellaScott · 24/06/2026 08:59

Funny, that.

I see someone has popped into a thread about sex crimes to try and dox feminists

They aren't even pretending at this point, are they?

It would probably help if the SNP hadn't spent the last few years spreading the message that women's privacy, dignity and safety meant nothing compared to male desires, that women being hurt by this was fine, and that they were willing to repeatedly go to court to achieve men being able to use women freely.

It's hardly surprising men feel empowered to use women and expect this to be normal; they're even being taught in school that a good woman doesn't say no or expect anything for herself, and sexually violent threats and ideation to women who say no is normal, fine and accepted.

I don’t think there has been a massive upsurge in rape convictions sadly. It isn’t easy to unpick the statistics though. We have the headline figure of the reported number of rapes and attempted rapes for the year. A proportion of those reports will be historical (committed over a year before the report). There is a substantial wait period for cases getting to court so the convictions are for crimes committed 2/3 years (except the odd high profile case) ago or even further back.

Edited

Isn't pushing gender identity in school to the benefit of certain men, though? And to the benefit of the pharmaceutical industry?
