'A 2024 study by the London School of Economics, using Greater Manchester Police data, found that football matches can influence when and how often domestic abuse occurs, with incidents peaking around eight to ten hours after a match'

I don't give a hoot what happens tonight on a sports pitch on the other side of the world.

I hope women in Scotland all stay safe and well.

If you are not feeling safe, please consider calling Women's Aid and/or the police.

Major sporting events and domestic abuse: Understanding the risks and strengthening prevention - Southend and Thurrock Domestic Abuse Partnership

Research has consistently shown that major sporting events can also coincide with increased levels of domestic abuse, creating additional risks for victim-survivors and greater demand on support services. Learn more and discover resources.

Edited

I read that Reform (?) woman's tweet, and then made this post.

Her statement was crass, but I am not sure whether that was the intention. If it raises awareness, that is a good thing.

I think she was maybe trying to be a bit too "clever".

Sadly I think many just don't make the connection, even though it has been published, how women living with men can find themselves having the man's frustration taken out on them.

Not only awful to know so many women are in potential danger, but that there are men like that.

Edited to say: I only posted all the links I have for Women's Aid support just in case anyone might need it. Sadly they aren't that easy to find and not everyone knows about them.

Anyone who has lived with a violent man already knows, that any disappointment can cause violence. Could be a lost football match, could be an empty salt cellar, could be someone looks at him the wrong way. Can remember the same points being made at previous tournaments but suppose fore warned is forearmed

Sadly despite awareness raising campaigns there's probably a new generation of younger women not knowing this, and sadly young men who have seen male adults behaving like this whilst he was growing up. So for him it is a "natural response".

Sad to say but a bit like women should always have a private stash of money put away, but maybe also need to a friend or relative they can trust to escape to. Because even if you get through to the police there's no telling how long it might take them to arrive.

Harder I know for women who have children.

Yes, I suppose football match weekends mean the police are busier as well.
