Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Sex education at school, in terms of trans ideology what should I be aware of when I'm looking at topics covered and school policies?

My schools academy trust is reviewing their learning topic of sex education, puberty, etc etc.

I am all for my child learning this topic alongside their classmates. They already know about the actual body part names, good/bad secrets, periods, etc.

My main reason for starting this thread is to ask what I should be looking for regarding gender/trans issues? Things like trans ideology, single sex spaces, battling gender stereotypes etc.

Is there anywhere I can read up on what to look for in their policies and draft update? What questions to ask, etc?

The school is brilliant and I want to take this draft review being sent out to parents for their views at face value.

Will be reading it this evening once I've got the kids to bed!

The main one is presenting gender identity as a fact, rather than something only a very small minority of people believe in

I would suggest you check, hand in hand, the schools policies on single sex spaces and how absolute the single sex part is

it will go hand inn hand with any dodgy gender woo in teaching. litmus test.

Thre's. brilliant organisation who have written a huge detailed document on this. Is it called protect and teach? I'll try and find out unless someone in the meantime can confirm.

They shouldn’t present changing sex as a possibility. We are male or female and it is immutable.

They should not say intersex, but Differences of Sexual Development and each person with a DSD is male or female. The actual chances of knowingly meeting someone with a DSD is tiny.

They shouldn’t force people to share pronouns either.

Ask them to define the meaning of “gender” which is normally all over PSHE.
they are obliged to be impartial so check for bias.

Here you are OP - these are the new national statutory guidelines for RSE & Health Ed. They're worth reading in full as generally they're comprehensive and nuanced. Specific issues relating to transgender / gender ideology are on page 36.

"In teaching this, schools should be mindful that beyond the facts and the law about biological sex and gender reassignment there is significant debate, and they should be careful not to endorse any particular view or teach it as fact. For example, they should not teach as fact that all people have a gender identity. Schools should avoid language and activities which repeat or enforce gender stereotypes. Schools should be mindful to avoid any suggestion that social transition is a simple solution to feelings of distress or discomfort"

There's also advice about the type of resources used with the direction that these "must not encourage pupils to question their gender"

"Schools should consult parents on the content of external resources on this topic in advance and make all materials available to them on request as set out in the section on openness with parents".

Hopefully this will go a long way to remove the queer theory activist groups who've been using school SRE to target children and embed gender ideology into schools. But it will need parents to ensure that schools are aware of this and not still using some of the previous dire resources / speakers these groups have provided
