Women Living Under Muslim Laws is pleased to launch Bridging Hope and Justice: Reflections on Sima Samar’s Life of Service in Afghanistan by Diana Reno.
For decades, Dr. Sima Samar has stood at the forefront of the struggle for human rights, women’s rights, education, healthcare, and democratic participation in Afghanistan. From founding hospitals and schools during war and displacement to leading Afghanistan’s Independent Human Rights Commission, her life reflects an unwavering commitment to justice in the face of extraordinary adversity.
At a time when Afghan women and girls continue to face systematic exclusion and gender apartheid under Taliban rule, Dr. Samar’s story reminds us that their struggle did not begin in 2021, nor has it ended. It is a story of resilience, resistance, and the determination of generations of Afghan women who have refused to surrender their rights, dignity, and aspirations.
This publication is part of WLUML’s Women Transforming Politics: Gender and Political Leadership Series, which documents and celebrates the contributions of women whose leadership continues to shape movements for equality, democracy, and peace.
Read, share, and join us in honouring a remarkable legacy of hope, courage, and service.
