It was reported that one stall displayed anatomical models of male and female genitalia, a condom-fitting device, condoms, and a penis-girth measuring card. Children as young as three were said to be present.
Devon County Council did not directly receive any complaints about the event from parents at the time, but Cllr Hill insisted there had been a safeguarding oversight.

His motion called for an independent review and an assurance on safeguarding policies and added: “This motion seeks to ensure that children and vulnerable people are protected from inappropriate material, unsafe environments, and disorderly conduct at publicly funded events.”

Cllr Hill said his motion was about protecting children while the cabinet’s response – that the council already had robust safeguarding procedures in place – was about protecting the council.

Reminds me of an art exhibition in my town some years ago. Every year there's a modern art exhibition, always a bit weird but interesting, but one year one of the exhibits was a bunch of dildos stood up on the floor in the corner of a room. Every year Every single schoolchild visits the exhibition with their class and I remember thinking how awkward it would be for the teachers, especially if they hadn't already visited in their own time and knew what to expect and perhaps avoid with their class.

A lot of gay people still consider queer a slur.

Its is one of the reasons why groups like LGB without the T exist.

As a friend of mine says, 'Gay is a sexuality, Queer is a way for the woke crowd to look cool'

As a lesbian, I absolutely hate the term "queer" and its sidekick "LGBTQIA+". In my opinion, they have been brought in to erase actual gay people and make us all "boundary-free" and "genderfluid".

I also hate the way gay people, including gay youth, are stereotyped as clown performers always in need of do-gooders' help. All these organisations that put various Prides on (what used to be Gay Pride, but the word was banished) don't represent gay people and are interested solely in their own advancement.

If, when I was an unsure teen trying to work my sexuality out I'd seen something like Out There Together's Instagram, I'd have run 100 miles and slinked further back into my closet.

It's not a sex toy. It's a model used in sex education classes for condoms for crying out loud.

Sorry, to clarify: is the purple thing in this image the "graphic, prosthetic sex toy" which is apparently an anatomical replica of a penis?

Because I've seen more priapic bollards to be honest. I can only assume it's to demonstrate how to put condoms on.

I remain unconvinced that the drawings of the female reproductive system, the cuddly toy of the same(?) on the right, diaphragms, and what appears to be condom packets(?) amount to pornography or sex toys. They're nothing children wouldn't see in biology lessons or supermarket shelves.

Shops are not funded by the council so they’re not held to the same standard.

Quite. If it was the Wintergardens for example, then that would be a different matter.

By the by... Surely all this could have been avoided completely by simply having stalls with adult/ more mature content in a seperate area, with a 'warning' sign up so families with young children could have avoided said stalls.

But the whole point is to expose young children to inappropriate sexual matter while telling them that it's normal and fine and only killjoy adults could possibly object.

lol. Let's all measure the penis model !

In context, it clearly is not a model used in a sex education class, because the context in which it has been displayed not a sex education class but a public library. These two places are not the same thing.
