The ‘quality’ of his thinking is evident in this last paragraph:
”Instead, he hopes that AI will free up professionals from bureaucracy to allow them more time on the “human” sides of their roles.
“I’m just watching it very carefully,” he added.
“I saw something the other day that I haven’t had time to decide if I agree with or not but it’s worth thinking about.
“Which is if you say 40 per cent unemployment, that sounds terrible. If you say three-day work week, that sounds pretty good.””
A three day work week for those fortunate enough to keep their jobs doesn’t sound so great when you factor in that the salary for the role will reflect the shorter hours as companies pursue ever greater efficiencies. Or that the markets for the new AI driven work product will shrink as a smaller percentage will be able to afford to consume it.
