Thought some might be interested in this:

Women are no longer second-class citizens, right? From the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 to the Equality Act 2010, the law has increasingly codified the requirement to ensure that women are treated fairly.

We’ve had our first female Prime Minister – that was so last century!

More women than men go to university (57% women vs 43% men) and this has been true for a decade. And women get slightly better degrees.

Women can become police Chief Constables, fight fires, and fly planes.

Women are engineers and surgeons – there are more female doctors in the NHS than male.

We teach, play football, and write books. We work as top chefs, wear killer heels or hard hats. We even have a female Archbishop of Canterbury

So why are women still writing books about feminism, organising as feminists and talking about women’s rights? Are they badly misinformed, or is there still work to be done?

Our event is suitable for those aged 18 and over.

Ticket price: £50

Students £35, Tickets with £25 donation to WRN £75

Is there any information about what they actually will be talking about?

I didn't realise that there was such a large difference. It goes some way to explaining why the core demographic of voters for Reform UK Party Ltd is uneducated males.

No idea!

I just copied the info off their web site.

Maybe email them?

Are the people writing books about feminism actually women though?

BabetteAteOatmeal · 17/05/2026 23:31

Fifty quid? That’s very expensive. Is there any information about who will be speaking or anything?

AS I said upthread, if interested go to their web site!

And it maybe as feminist confereences alwasy used to be in the past, there are no speakers.

It was (and in IMO should be) an opportunity for feminist activists to meet up and exchange information and ideas IRL.

We dont need speakers to be part of FWR online, so just as possible to interact wit other women. face to face.

I did look at the website, it doesn’t say any more. £50 is a ridiculous amount of money for meeting up with feminist women and having a chat. If it’s a conference, I’d expect speakers. There are lots of ways to “interact with other women” that don’t cost the week’s grocery money.

Well susgest you email them. They may be updating.

I agree £50 is a lot, but in the past the whole point of a gathering of feminists would be to find out what is going on in other parts of the UK.

Virtual feminism is not in any way like the feminism that is engaged with local issues, being a support network or whatever.

Admittedly some might prefer to just be virtual.

I think a bigger issue is if it is meant to be national having it in London favours some above others!

I might go. It’s a good question. I’d want a decent sarnie included for 50 quid though

So if you don’t want to shell out £50 you must only be up for “virtual feminism” whatever that might be?

Seriestwo · 19/05/2026 16:08

It doesn’t say what the programme is, which seems odd

I was wondering if you only get it when you sign up.

If I was thinking of going, I would definitly email and ask what will be discussed because £50, plus cost of travel to London etc., with no idea of what is going to happen is a but if a leap of faith.

Hmm

I feel the same. It’s too expensive to get there to be disappointed

KnottyAuty · 19/05/2026 19:54

I suppose part of the cost must be the central London venue which will be pricey. And maybe security. Once you add in a sandwich theres not much left…

BabetteAteOatmeal · 19/05/2026 21:01

If there are going to be speakers or events that justify £50 plus travel, it should say so in the information about the conference. Saying everyone should individually email to ask this is ridiculous.

KnottyAuty · 19/05/2026 22:21

More info - think the earlier flyer was just a hold the date thing

I wasn't saying everyone should individual email. But its pointless posting on a thread on FWR to ask what it was going to include.

Personally I thought it was obvious that this was just an early announcement, and found it strange no one just said it will be interesting who they have as speakers!

Although as I said earlier I cant see the point of paying money to hear women say what you are already able to know by reading their sociall media posts.

Not being interested to hear what other women are doing in other parts of the country, or to discuss how to campaign rather that sit in a chair while someone on a platform presumes to have more to say than the audience!

I was hoping it was going to be really interesting with an in person discussion about the problems that women who are part of WRN have described in much detail on an earlier thread here.

Actually seems quite strange that given the information in that thread that anyone would accept trust what was organised!
