Just checking the tv guide on iplayer and saw the attached. Even though the name of it is On the Basis of Sex, they have to write gender in the description.

And then there's this news article on endometriosis today:

I was initially delighted to see us referred to as "women", and then we got "peopled" halfway down 🙄 Still, a slight improvement?

A woman lies on a sofa at home in visible discomfort with her arms on her stomach.

Endometriosis: New scan technique shows promise for earlier detection

A new scan technique could spot areas of endometriosis missed by conventional scans, scientists say.

If you make an iPlayer account, and in this case, it was for my young son, you have gender identity options.

The BBC ran with the fire at the LGBT club in Milton Keynes story for about three days, implying throughout it was an anti trans or homophobic attack.

As soon as the police declared the fire was an accident the story was removed from all prominence on the BBC website.

I suppose my only debate point about “gender equality” is that in the historical context of the programme, gender could be seen as the correct term. Original use of the term was and still is by the UN, how sex/gender stereotypes affect social opportunities and treatment for women (and both sexes). “Gender” being the social construct and how she was fighting for equality.

I have more issues around the iPlayer choice of gender identity as it’s like asking for a religious identity, which they don’t do.

For a film that is literally called “On the Basis of Sex” 🤦🏼‍♀️

I think in this case "gender equality" is the more commonly used term. For years the drive for equal pay, the fight against discrimination due to maternity leave etc has been referred to as "gender equality" rather than "sex equality". "Sex equality" actually sounds clumsy to my mind in this context!

So I think they've used the right language here.

I disagree Finchie, gender sounds American (which tbf this film is). In the UK discussion and legislation from the 1970s to the 2010 EA was always about sex equality and sex is the protected characteristic.

I didn't have a problem with terms like the gender pay gap until the gender activists came along and tried to conflate sex and gender and persuade us that a man who says he is a woman magically becomes a woman.
All it needs is one or two senior, well paid men in a company to suddenly identify as women and that company's 'gender' pay gap suddenly narrows — when in reality nothing has changed.
I'm now at the point that whenever I see gender on a form, I correct it to sex.
