I saw someone reading this article while traveling and it was called something like "Getting pronouns correct is a matter of respect - full stop".

Couldn't find it online with that title but found one publisheda while ago with the tabloid title "My boomer colleagues won’t use a young coworker’s ‘they’ pronouns – what can I do?"

Not sure what anyone else thinks but post Forstater isn't it about employers giving equal validity to "beliefs worthy of respect".

Quite a long article: https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/boomer-colleagues-wont-use-coworkers-they-pronouns-4347078

Can also be read at https://archive.is/yWIrx

(I wonder why they didn't use boomer headline in print version!)

My boomer colleagues won't use a young coworker's 'they' pronouns - what can I do?

I'm glad you posted this. I have been seething all day long over this 'advice', and found the 'boomer' version on Facebook as "The i paper's post' on 13 April. It received 164 thumbs up responses out of 840; the other 75% of the responses pointed out that Boomers are mostly retired (I enjoyed 'Don't call me boomer and I won't call you him/her') and discussing when 'they' began to mean a single unknown person.

Read this sentence, and decide to whom you think the final 'they' refers:

From conversations I’ve had with older members of the team (in their late forties, early fifties), they are pretty accepting and open-minded, but for some reason, they all keep calling our co-worker “her” or “she” – I know it upsets them.

The writer, I think, means to refer to the co-worker; but the sentence's construction makes the reader sympathise with the distress of older team members at being forced to use language that goes against the evidence of their eyes and ears.

By publishing this flawed advice and writing, 'The i paper' has surely taken its place in the throng of those on their way to Hell in a Handcart.

Thanks for point that out!

I just couldn't get over the total acceptance that it was all about making older people feel they are in the wrong.

I thought the whole point of the Forstater judgement was that workplaces had to allow for the fact that people do have different belief sets.

And it isn't for the employer to say we will acknowledge one belief set but not the other.

Apparently you can email [email protected]

I might do that later.

I did email that address. Hopebyoubdid, too. I told whoever reads it that the paper is about to lose a subscriber, and that they're all going to Hell in a Handcart. I felt better for venting my spleen, so thank you.

I haven't yet. Not sure whether to do short and angry which is what I feel. Or attempt to appear "professional" and pointing out in a helpful way some of the errors which under the credibility of the article!

I suppose should cc to editor?

Not only are they wrong about the law, late 40s to early 50s is nowhere near boomer territory. It's not even solid GenX; some of those are teetering on the border of Millennial.

I see you've move onto a different article but here's the one you initially mentioned:

Same author who seems to have turned an advice type article into a news one a week later. They use much the same text.
